Lara vs Paul Williams seems like a lifetime ago.
You never know what you’re gonna get with Lara. He can be terribly boring or very exciting. He can play hit-and-don’t-get-hit, or he can slug it out. As others have noted, those old legs are guaranteeing more of the latter. But Landy has always possessed good power. This notion that he’s simply a slick boxer is mistaken. Of the three Cubans that defected at the same time (the others being Rigondeaux and Gamboa), I had the least hopes for Lara. He proved me wrong…big time.

The P. Will fight was one of the most atrocious robberies I’ve ever witnessed. I was driven to write a complaint letter to the New Jersey State Athletic Commission, something I’ve never done before or since. I’m sure many more fans did the same, as the judges who scored the fight that night were all suspended — to the best of my knowledge, an unprecedented move. I also thought Landy did enough to win versus Canelo. But that’s a different story….

I would’ve flipped out if I were you. I think there were only four people in the world who thought Williams won that fight: the three judges, and Paul’s mother.

I don't see any reason for Lara to retire. He's not slipping , he's fighting well ,and making weight with no problems . I'd really like to see him fight Janibek.

I very rarely agree with "robbery" outcries but that certainly was one.

I didn't have much on it to be fair that was the saving grace but because Lara was unknown at the time he was quite a big underdog so I still should have won a fair amount. I think it was £50 I put on it.

Lara has always been in supreme shape. He never has to struggle to make weight. That kind of discipline extends a career. But Landy has also paced himself these past few years; his last significant opponent was Castano, over five years ago (split draw). He can probably go on another five years at this rate, and at this level of opposition; but if you throw a top guy against him now, he’ll look all of his 41 years.
