Can't. We just don't know enough about Morrell. We know more than enough about Benavidez to suggest he takes this.

IF Morrell is what he/we/they claim, then yes, he should dismantle Benavidez without much worry. But, is he those things?

Morrell looked bad in his last fight and arguably shouldve lost. Not sure where his hype comes from.

Benavidez looked bad in his last fight and arguably shouldn't have completely gassed against Methuselah Gvozdyk. Not sure where this Monster hype comes from.

He still clearly one and destroyed Dirrell, Plant, Andrade, and Lemuix. What has Morrell done?

Didn't destroy dirrel the fight got stopped on cuts
he decisioned plant after carnela stopped him
Andrade is a 154lber who bullied him for the first 3 before the size advantage from bumavidez came into play
Lemiuex? Lmao cmon man. He's smaller than Andrade and way past it when they fought

I think a lot of his hype is generated by his glitzy amateur record (something like 130-5) and winning the Would Youth Championship. In his 3rd pro fight he fought a decent opponent in Lennox Allen and won an interim WBA title. His biggest win is probably his stoppage of Yerbossynuly.

He's skilled but he looked bad against Hot Rod. How good is he? I guess we won't really know until we see him against a known quantity like Benavidez.

I'd favor Benavidez but I wouldn't be shocked if Morrell won. I like Benavidez but he's had a few lackluster performances (Gabriel, Gvozdyk).

I favor Benny as well, but there’s really no telling here. That’s what makes this fight so interesting — that and the apparent animosity building between the two. Much as I want Morrell to win, I don’t get the certainty of those picking him. At least the Mexican has a proven track record. There’s really not all that much to go on with the Cuban David. The eye-test is too unreliable. It’s gonna be fun, finally finding out who’s who on February 1st.

You missed my point completely, man. But to answer this, see Groin Grabber's post above. We can play "who fought who" all the live long day, but both fighters are riddled with asterisks regardless. I will say Morrell's first eleven opponents have FAR better records than Benny's first eleven. His third fight alone was a 12 round title fight. A vacant, paper title, sure, but more than what Benavidez was still feasting on at his eleventh fight (a 0 win, 11 loss journeyman). Morrell was fast-tracked for a reason.

We don't know how good EITHER is, really, but experience and the list of "names" would suggest Benavidez wins.

Word of mouth, amateur pedigree, and the eye test suggest Morrell wins.

Maybe it will be a draw and we'll all look like fools picking one over the other.

Did Benny look good against an old 40 year old shopworn Gvodzyk ???
There is a reason why a fighter with 11 fights is stepping up to him , what about just that for hype
Maybe it also has something to do with his amateur pedigree
                    Just sayin’
