I just feel like there's better fights out there, I mean if they wanna build the guy and sell tickets with a standard defense then why not have him face Jazza in a all liverpool clash.
There is better fights for sure, and I bet they come soon. I hope I'm not wrong lol but he doesnt seem like they are avoiding anything. Hes been in wars, maybe give him one?

Does Doheny deserve a title fight coming right off a loss at the division below? No, I don't think he deserves it, but playing devil's advocate if looking at it purely from a promoter's view it actually makes a lot of sense on both ends.

From Ball's side, in terms of name value Doheny's got the "former world titlist" status and is also Irish so UK guys are probably more familiar with him than some of the other lower ranked guys in WBA 126. Although he's now 38 and coming off an injury KO loss from the division below, but defeating him gives an extra bonus because it can be compared to Inoue and an earlier stoppage can let him get some bragging points. It is a relatively low risk, medium reward voluntary defense compared to say the likes of a Kholmatov who's got less name value but higher risk.

From Doheny's side, it is a free title fight that fell on his lap after a loss, should be decent money and given his age it could be his last title chance ever so no reason not to take it. He's got multiple losses already and have nothing to lose with everything to gain.

It should be entertaining while it lasts. Doheny is listed as being taller/longer than Ball, and he's a southpaw. If Doheny's power carries, Ball could find himself in trouble. The primary issue is Doheny's age, but I assume that's the reason for moving up in weight.
