When I first read an article in which Tank talked about retirement and therapy, I had two conflicting thoughts happening. One is he genuinely wants to improve himself and with the birth of his child he wants to remove anger from his life as much as possible. This would also explain postponement of his fight for several months as he does not want to artificially bring anger into his life so he can fight.

Another more cynical thought was that he was not truthful and is just trying to generate scarcity to improve ticket sales i..e hey guys I am not fighting for much longer so if you want to see me fight in real life, this is your opportunity - go and buy tickets. His last few shows have not been blockbusters in terms of ticket and ppv sales so he has to do something to bump it up. Given that he does not want to challenge himself and fight real threats in the ring, predicting his "death as a fighter" would also potentially increase the sales for the next couple of shows.

I don't really know which one is true.

Talk is cheap. He's a serial woman beater, a drunk driving hit-and-run scumbag, and on top of that he's the biggest cherry picker since Demetrius Andrade. If he wants to make amends he could start with the actual people he's hurt instead of doing a woe-is-me press conference to elicit sympathy he doesn't deserve.

Yes, you do know which one is true. He doesn't even acknowledge the tangible harm he's caused to innocent people. Even in this story he evades responsibility for it. The reason his fight was delayed was because it wasn't selling and now he's out here pitching some half-assed narrative about change, but again, to change you have to own up to the actual violent things you've done. It's just like when people claim Tyson is a changed man when he regularly brags about all the women he's beaten and ****d over the years.

Good for him although it would be a shame if somebody with his talent didn't have at least 1-2 superfights before retiring...

I don't know for a fact because it is impossible to know what is in somebody's head, but you are right, I am leaning more towards the second, cynical option that he is just trying to get the ticket sales up because they were poor. Most likely it was an idea from their marketing firm after some brainstorming on how to make more money. I am saying this because I spent 35 years in the corporate world and this is exactly what we did all the time - brainstorm ideas on how to improve sales.

You can just listen to his words and those tell you what's in his head. He literally denied responsibility for his violent, ******, reckless behavior in the same breath as he claimed he wanted to change for the better. It's not even a question.
