James Toney vs ?

AJ has never failed to beat an unranked journeyman.
Toney failed to beat unranked journeyman, multiple times, in his prime.
Let alone the HW version of Toney who has zero good wins and no titles whereas AJ who is two time champion, unified champion and 8 wins over Top 10 ranked fighters.
So no, not even at all.Comment

So that's the HW version, not the Cruiserweight version. So you managed to get to the bottom of that one eventually Sherlock Holmes
And no, he doesn't, because the HW version of Toney, is garbage, with no good wins. And that includes Holyfield's 2-2-2 corpse that's you're laughable trying to consider "still solid"You definitely do not want to go down that slippery slope with all the fighters you deem "shot" after one loss. You definitely need to strongly consider your position on that.
But yeah, you entitled to your warped, backwards opinion. But be aware that is that, warped. The reality of it is Toney did nothing at HW because he was garbage at HW. Anyone that he fought with a pulse he lost to.
There is no evidence to suggest that he wins a round vs AJ much less beats him. Which he obviously would not.Comment

Er, yeah I do.
What are you saying here, that Toney's HW "era" is better than this one? Because it's not. At worst it's the same level but realistically it's worse.
John Ruiz was champion in that "era". You think Daniel Dubious couldn't beat John Ruiz? He flattens John Ruiz.
Still doesn't really address what was said.
On what basis could you possibly have the opinion that Toney could beat AJ at HW? What did he do for you to think that is in any way remotely possible?
Was that expected say 4 or 5 years ago? People thought Usyk would get killed if he stepped up and it turns out he had AJ out on his feet in the first fight.
So do you really believe an experienced James Toney one of the greatest fighters of the late 80s/90s wouldn't be able to beat a stiff, upright Joshua who has average stamina at best? I'd love to hear why you believe differently because outside of a hail mary by Joshua, Toney would mentally break him even before he threw punch and inside the ring would have way too many assets to his game for Joshua. You can't honestly tell me you think AJ would outbox Toney? Come on...
Although we haven't crossed paths I've seen you post on here and consider you one of the better ppl on the forum who actually talks sense so im surpised you think this I mean sure Toney was far from great at Heavyweight but he was cut from a different cloth and modern day fighters like AJ would have a whole world of trouble facing him
This era is terrible absolute garbage and it isn't nostalgia talking when you get the ghost of Pacquiao coming back and beating up Keith Thurman for example. Boxing and boxers don't have the trainers or the same guts those old school fighters had and I'd pick Toney to beat a guy who didn't start boxing until he was 18Last edited by davef; 12-11-2024, 10:04 AM.Comment

I'm surprised at people saying Joshua would beat Toney I doubt it outside of a hail mary punch. I think Toney would have f'd him up down the stretch
little fat Ruiz knocked him down 5 times or so and he couldnt put a dent in Parker even Takam gave him work. Joshua doesnt have the mentality to beat Toney he would have mentally crushed him in the build up aloneComment

Usyk is a Natrual Crusierweight who's weighed 200+ in the ring his entire career and is also levels above James Toney as a fighter so I'm not sure the point you're trying to make here.
You don't actually believe that, do you?

You keep repeating the same thing, do I believe AJ would beat Toney at HW...Erm YES I do. I think anyone with even one grain of sense would think that because James Toney is GARBAGE at HW and literally beat no one of note there.
What could possibly make you think that James Toney has any kind of chance of even winning more than 1 round vs AJ? That's a genuine question please give me any kind of evidence from his HW career that would make you form this insane opinion.

I'll just let you know, it's not. And yet in that era, Toney has no wins over anyone of note. Yet AJ in without question Top 3 HW's of his era with a long list of wins over Top 5-10 ranked guys.
You aren't going to tell me that their HW resumes are comparable in any way? Do you know why that is? Because AJ is literally 50x the HW that James Toney is.Comment
