Jose was their prospect. They saw the potential of Jose and helped put him on
Rayo definitely owes the Benavidez family for their nurturing and support. As for switching trainers, it was obviously for the best. Benavidez senior stated that he was bothered by how Rayo handled the situation and I can understand his reasoning... Hopefully they're able to figure it out in a way that doesn't totally shatter their friendship.

Yeah, Robert is a good trainer period! He's honest and a humble man who knows the boxing business in and out. If I'm being honest, after watching Rayo lose against De Los Santos, I didn't believe he had it in him to be champ again, but once I learned that Robert Garcia was his trainer and after watching him easily outbox Pit Bull, I realized that Benavidez senior was a detriment to his career.

It's awesome to hear your stories on Rayo and some background on his life. Thanks again and I appreciate anything else you're willing or compelled to share!
      Mexican gym

Mexicans are natural brawlers, but Jose liked to box and would keep his eyes glued onto his sparring partners to pick them apart

      Athleticism gets overlooked.

A sparring partner of Jose took a nice bodyshot and said he hits like a welterweight

Jose had good power in the amateurs. One time he was on the ropes and knocked out his African opponent anyways

In the gym he was the best at conditioning workouts. He could go faster and harder

I’m a lefty myself. Jose was proud the first time he saw me land a check right hook on another kid in sparring

Then he advised leaping with the hook to use it more offensively

        David got wise with age

he used to go to the club and would only wear Versace to floss lol

Now David has real estate in multiple states invested into rental properties with tenants

Looks massive on television but is a tall skinny Mexican offline

had sunglasses on the last time I saw him at the club probably didn’t want to be bothered

He was friendly anyways when I greeted him with David
