Well, yeah... The fighter always has the say on who he wants to or not want to fight. The promoter can't force you to fight, but he can legally charge his fee and has rights to the event.“Golden Boy Promotions has exclusive rights to Ryan Garcia’s fights,” Oscar De La Hoya, the head and namesake of the company, posted on Twitter on Tuesday. “The organizers of this event have acknowledged as such and have agreed in writing that our sign-off is needed for this event to occur. As no such sign-off has been given, as of today there is no event with Ryan Garcia.”
Just goes to show the power of promoters! Then same promoter says, "The fighters are the blame!"
Golden Boy advised Ryan not to accept the rehydration clause when he fought Tank, but Ryan didn't listen. Golden Boy couldn't prevent Ryan from fighting Tank. Golden Boy still got paid their due amount and was involved in the event.Comment

The fighter may want a fight, and the promoter can block it from happening! It's happened many times! We saw Arum do it numerous times!

Can you explain how exactly Arum legally blocked fights from happening?
Rizin, the outfit that is organizing the event, is not a competitor, such as PBC is to Golden Boy. I would imagine that Golden Boy would need to see the contract and might have stipulations of their own before signing off.
Golden Boy's issue is that Ryan negotiated a fight without their legal team's approval....Comment

Oscar doesnt get a percentage on fights promoted by Golden Boy, as that would be illegal. But he would get a percentage in a scenario where someone else wins a purse bid, or a provision of services deal is made for Ryan to fight on another promoters card. Typically that percentage would be around 20%-25% of the contracted purse.....Comment

This is no different that Ryan just announcing he's fighting at UFC 310 next month.
He isn't allowed to just do that if he feels like it. He's not signed with UFC (or RIZIN), he has an exclusive agreement with GBP. He can't just go fight for another promoter and mail Oscar a check.Comment

There were a few instances where Arum (and others have done it as well) had to get an injunction prohibiting the fighter from taking part in the other event. Courts can rule that simply assessing financial penalties after the fact would not be a sufficient remedy, therefore they injunct the fighter from participating.

But usually its alot simpler. One promoter notifies the other promoter that there is a legal challenge coming, and the 2nd promoter moves on to another fighter because its not worth the hassle.

Correct, Oscar's a salary employee of Golden Boy Promotions. Golden Boy however is entitled to a percentage of the fights GBP promotes. In this case, Rizin would have to agree to compensate GBP, considering that Golden Boy has exclusive rights to Ryan's fights.
