  • Richard Torrez vs Isaaz Munoz (Dec 7th)

Four fights in a year is great and all, but looks like Torrez is lined up for another eight rounder with a dude whose most notable appearance was eating uppercuts from Franklin. Can someone who knows more about Munoz see him upsetting The Stache?

On the one hand, I appreciate that they're taking their time with Torrez, but I really wish they'd throw him in with a live body already. He has some flaws that are never going to be corrected going four or five rounds. They are probably well aware of his flaws, I would think, but him barreling through flabasses ain't helping.

Think his competition will elevated in 2025 considering as he had just debuted 2 years ago and is now getting pretty close to Jared Anderson's record of (17-1, 15 KOs) with his record of (11-0, 10 KOs). By the end of 2025 thanks to his Silver Olympic Medalist, he might be fighting fringe contenders like Jermaine Franklin (23-2), Guido Vianello (13-2), or Michael Hunter (23-1-2) sooner rather than later.

Get it Isaac Munoz is not physically impressive to look at. But at least Torrez will keep busy against durable hard hitter but low output fighter in Isaac Munoz (18-1-1, 15 KOs) that lost his only fight against a top contender, it might not help him Torrez much but at least he is fighting a durable fighter that make him fight more rounds and elevate his ranking a bit. Richard also had fought recently against the awkward undefeated Brandon Moore (14-0, 10 KOs). So not a bad way to end the year.

This is what I'm hoping to see.

Don't get me wrong, I love the careful progression, but I think he's struggled with one fighter out of those eleven. I love Richard but want to see him have to dig deep now.

Forgot to add Olympic Silver Medalist-background he might fight fringe contenders more quickly than Anderson did.

Yeah I agree, nothing wrong with careful development. But he does need challenges to refine and work on his skills and difencies. Apparently, he is currently ranked at 27, 2-3 bouts with top 25 fighters then fringe contenders at 10-15 would be ideal.

Otto Wallin (27-2, 15 KOs), Kubrat Pulev (31-3, 14 KOs) and Murat Gassiev (31-2, 24 KOs) are rated pretty close to him right now. Well rounded, physically big and strong fighters that have a reach advantage.

Franklin isn't the heaviest of hitters but he threw (and landed) everything but the kitchen sink on Munoz but the Mexican withstood the beating and lasted until the final bell.

I'm not mad at this fight to be honest. Joey Dawejko was supposed to give Torrez rounds and extend him deep into a fight but managed to get himself disqualified before that happened. Torrez ate some clean shots against Dawejko and that's something they will want to clean up before he faces someone with more pop.

Munoz should give him those rounds without posing too much danger. If Torrez stops him, it's a statement because Franklin couldn't. I imagine that Torrez will begin to take some incremental steps up after that.

I imagine someone like Vianello, Jonathan Rice or Stephen Shaw might be a future opponent in 2025.

It's time to put Torrez in there with a better class of fighters . It's easy to look great against his level of opposition so far. He's not going to get any better fighting these guys. He fought much better boxers in the amateurs. Stop holding his hand and let him do his thing. It's sink or swim time.
