Rigo was a stubborn headcase, I'm sure. You can make even defensive style exciting if you want, and he had power to do that.

But he chose to act like he is the most important man in the room every time he showed up.

But to pull that off you have to have a certain amount of charisma and looks, which he didn't have.

The fact that Rigo never got a fan base and that he never got big fights at his weight, other than Donaire, is an absolute indictment of boxing and boxing fans. Boxing fans don’t appreciate masterful defense unless it’s flashy (Floyd, Pernell), and that’s a shame. But flashy defense is worse defense because it’s more prone to error and the decline of instincts. It’s like the hockey goalie who flies into the air on every save versus one who is just positionally sound — every team would rather have the latter. But boxing is a sport where entertaining is more important than winning or being good.

In his prime, Rigo could not be hit by anyone without ever needing to be flashy. He was just so, so fundamentally sound. Donaire literally couldn’t touch him, but that was the only time he got credit for his skill level. Anyone who’s boxed understands how insane what he was doing is, but Rigo always got called “boring”. That wasn’t on him, that was on people not understanding what they were looking at.

Leo Santa Cruz DID call out Rigondeux. You can check out two of his earlier fights, which were the ones I remember. They're in his post-fight interviews with Jim Gray. They're not hard to remember brother. Don't know what you were watching back then.

I remember reading an article ten years ago about Rigo and his success. I line in a paragraph struck me the most.... it read

the only way Rigo loses is to a younger bigger fighter when he's aged.

and thats exactly what happened unfortunately.

He went up to fight Lomanchenko.

Tbf mares was up at featherweight at that point and got iced by Gonzales in a round just after Rigo had beat Nonito at 122lbs and was at the peak of his powers. Then he had that awful fight with Agekbo and his stock when right down and top rank were dying to get rid of him because they didn't want him to beat Nonito because he was the exciting fighter knocking people out and drawing more attention.

People keep saying Rigo was boring... but true boxing fans see his talent. And he's definitely worked at being seen
as more aggressive for a few years now. I always enjoy watching his fights... from even years ago. He's definitely a rare talent.

It's a popularity contest based on how much the brain-dead fans and hot air "pundits" "like" you. If you smile all the time like Tim Bradley and kiss enough axx, the fans and powers-that-be will take an unnatural liking to you. Rigo never learned to play that game.

Guillermo just seemed totally uninterested in actually fighting. Now here he is, 44 years-old, forced (I’m sure) to get back in the ring. None of this would’ve been necessary if he played his cards just a little better, if he actually cared.
You mean if he kissed enough axx? You shouldn't have to suck people off in order to be paid in this sport commensurate with your skill level. Rigo toyed with Donaire, a future HOF fighter. I won money on that fight. That's how sure I was Rigo would win. Now watch who these S-bags slide into the HOF and who gets frozen out.

That's an outright lie. Santa Cruz, Frampton, Mares and Quigg all his from Rigo at 122. Go well that lie somewhere else. My memory is too good.
