I love Dan Rafael’s podcast and respect him more than most journalists, but I was irritated to no end how he basically crapped on Rigo at every turn. We get it, he didn’t have the most fan friendly style, but his disdain for Rigo bled into his journalistic objectivity.

I’ve seen that Rigo-Donaire fight and it was 9-3 AT BEST for Donaire. Dan Rafael somehow scored it 7-5 for Rigo. Absolutely bonkers. That was one of the easiest fights I’ve ever scored.

It is as bad as Harold Lederman having a brainfart and scoring Paul Williams-Carlos Quintana 7-5 in favor of Williams.

I was at the fight, and re-watched it on TV afterwards. It was a masterclass. Not an incredibly exciting fight, but light years away from one of Rigo’s patented stinkers. I forget my score, but it was something like 10-2 for the Cuban. I agree that there is no possible way Donaire won more than three rounds — if that. Rafael had it in for Rigo. Not sure why — maybe it just irked him that this tremendous talent chose to fight in such boring fashion — but it was quite evident.

And yes, its a shame Rigo being as skilled as he is didnt had that killer instinct its was indeed frustrating to watch, good thing is the up & comer new wave of cuban fighters seem with totally different approach. I thought Rigo was retired tbh.

I flew into Radio City for that bout. It was a great night. Rigo never looked so good as a pro. His boxing prowess was on full display, and I thought he finally “got it.” Sadly, Guillermo immediately went back to his old ways of stinking out the joint.

I remember how guys like Mares and Santa Cruz fled 122 to avoid Rigo. Even Frampton and Quigg fled. It was comical how the division became a fkn ghost town when Rigo was there. These were pretty good fighters he spooked.

Doanire won rounds and some of the rounds were close so maybe you can give those rounds to him and he also scored a knockdown. Main reason why people thing the fight was shutout is because most didn't expect rigo to win. So when the upset happened and rigo did better than anyone was expecting. It created illusion that fight was a shutout.

Donaire won three rounds maximum. He was getting washed by Rigo so badly the second half of the fight, pregnant Rachel Donaire at ringside almost feinted.

Fat Bastard Dan Rafael hated Rigo because Rigo wasn't a Top Rank puppet. Fat Dan was the toady/water boy for Top Rank. They let him have free run of the press conference buffet.

Yeah, he had a lot of talent, Rigo, a lot of promise. I thought after Donaire it would be off to the races. I was wrong. I lost interest soon thereafter. Guillermo just seemed totally uninterested in actually fighting. Now here he is, 44 years-old, forced (I’m sure) to get back in the ring. None of this would’ve been necessary if he played his cards just a little better, if he actually cared.

Felt bad for Rigo and how his career panned out. The guy was avoided heavily when he was at his best because he was seen as a 'who needs him' because he was so talented but because of his style and how he performed in some fights he just couldn't draw enough for these champions to risk fighting him and the promoters didn't see the point of him either. Santa Cruz,Frampton, Quigg etc just didn't wanna know, and the only big fight he could get was Loma at a weight class he had no business being in and even in that fight he didn't really get the payday he'd of wanted.

PBC had zero interest in Rigondux even after years of being a free agent. Zero.

Santa Cruz called him out every chance he got, but when Oscar tried to make the fight, uncle Al bought LSC's remaining contract with GBP.

That's bullsht! Leo Santa Claus refused to even say Rigo's damn name. Funny how he managed to fight Mares twice, though. Sad how you can sit here and lie like this with a straight face and clear conscience. We both know Leo never wanted to be in a ring with Rigo.
