The IBF continues to plummet towards IBO level irrelevance.

Not necessarily disagreeing, but makes me wonder is there a bonus anything for relinquishing instead of just letting it get stripped like how Usyk/Crawford/Canelo did?

Usyk wasn't stripped either, he vacated it voluntarily after they declined his request for an exemption to fight the Fury rematch. He even called the belt his "gift" to the Dubois/Joshua winner.

I would guess that it's simply less of a hassle to vacate it yourself. It's a meaningless distinction anyway, since the only reason they're vacating is that they're going to be stripped.

Ah, I guess it also saves time where the vacant belt can be immediately fought for instead of awaiting until deadline passes if the owner has zero intent of meeting the requirements.

I’m sick to death of the IBF’s terrible decisions. They keep disrupting unification and are keeping the belts fragmented. It’s so detrimental to boxing as a sport.
