  • Let's talk blocked punches that hurt you anyways ...

Lots of talks about Bivol's left cheek being destroyed mostly by blocked shots from the high-guard... Should they count when they actually put a dent ?

What if Bivol went down with one of those... Would he get the count ?

    Food for thoughts ...

I always have an issue when commentators will say 'nothing is getting through' when big shots are taken on the arms and threatening the guard. As if no damage is being done.

Clearly damage is being done any time anybody has their feet close enough to bludgeon someone's guard and arms with impunity. Counts times a thousand when it is a monster like Beterbiev.

Bivol was fantastic for maybe all but the last 3 rounds but the fact remains is that Beterbiev himself is a genius and wastes hardly anything. He always seems to be in range to throw a shot and everything is solid.

    Two brilliant boxers either way.

it 100% counts because its damage caused by punches. That energy is still being absorbed its not just disappearing into the air.

This is the downside of blocking punches because even though arent landing flush the energy from those punches are getting absorbed and accumulating

Counts as effective aggression, although not under the clean punches criteria. Opponent should get credit for defense though, but it would still get credit from the judging criteria.

Judges are going to score punches that land clean to the face, head and body. If a fighter is knocked down on a blocked punch it counts as a knockdown and should be scored that way.

                Forget about your imagination.
They do not count in the rules. Punches MUST be clean to score.

So legit knock down from a block counts.... But having your face repainted from blocking shots doesn't... You see where I'm going here ?

"The test to measure the awarding of points for “offensive boxing” should be the number of direct, clean punches delivered with the knuckle part of the closed glove on any part of the scoring zone of the opponent’s body above the belt line. The judges should also consider the effect of blows received versus the number of punches delivered. Punches that are blocked or deflected should not be considered in tabulating your score."

They don't count. End of story.
