It's no longer in its infancy - it is a multiple times more powerful than it was in 2020 and for example Chat GPT by 2028 will have the combined intelligence of 1 million PHDs and be able to access and employ that intelligence in a matter of a few seconds. Unless we learn to regulate that intelligence almost immediately then people getting banned on here will be the least of our concerns.

It's still in early stages of development, despite advances. But, I'm sure that key functions can be adjusted to reduce senseless censoring and bans. And I just don't see the great minds behind it allowing it to self-advance like Skynet.

I can only go by what I'm reading - but the AI learning curve is a very steep exponential one

I bet the level of a given AI app's intelligence and adjustability has a lot to do with how much it costs. You get what you pay for.

I think we're looking at this from different perspectives. I'm talking about the maximum capacity of AI - not the frontiers of space as the voice on Star Trek intoned at the beginning of each episode but rather the frontiers of artificial intelligence.
That is measured by the capacities of GPT-4 and it's latest iterations and it's competitors. It's a bit like a sports league table,one moment one product is ahead and then the following month another is ahead. But in the case of ChatGPT 4 I've read that it is learning at such a rate that by 2028 it'll have the combined intelligence of the human race - 1,000,000 PHDs - and if that isn't the combined intelligence then you can imagine where it'll have reached by 2030 or 2035. The article I read is a subscription piece otherwise I'd link you if i can find it - I read too much.

Most of those minds have come out and stated they are fearful for the future. Just last week the co-inventor of machine learning got a Nobel Prize for inventing machine learning which was the start of AI and he said the same.

But AI is like a gun - it depends on who is using it. Malevolent actors, state or individual, could use it to do far worse than current day hackers. Y

I've heard about the fears, and given such, don't you believe that safeguards would be put in place to prevent catastrophe?
Good point about the tech falling into the wrong hands. I hadn't considered that. It needs to be regulated, which goes back to my mention of safeguards.

I kind of thought we were at cross-purposes - no worries. For what it's worth i don't think it is AI being used on this site - i believe its just some simple software with input from the mods who have just input a list they don't want to see - basically everything non-boxing that is 'wrong' in their view

IDK. One of the mods mentioned AI is being used since the site's ownership changed hands.
