    'Popular London light heavyweight debutant Hasnan Ali was stopped in just 40 seconds by Doncaster southpaw Tommy Sams (4-0). Ali was never off his feet but took a big left hand early on and was hurt and under heavy fire when the referee intervened'.

    If he is popular why did they put him in with an unbeaten guy having his 5th fight! That doesn't make any sense. Whoever he is popular with, it clearly wasn't the matchmaker. Or, was he just a Poplar, London LHW? (Poplar is an area of East London).

      I was just reading about this actually. Sams took the fight on less than a days notice IIRC. and while he is unbeaten, his opponents collective record is 11-131-2

        So it was a debut cherrypick gone wrong, I see.

        Speaking of cherrypick gone wrong, I still am amused at Kenbun Torres essentially busting two mandatories by defeating Gaballo (who was in line to fight Takei before Higa) and Catarja (supposed to be Tanaka's mando next).

          Minor detail I find entertaining is that Edwards mentioned Honda from Teiken for wanting to fight a champion but half the belts are owned by Ohashi (Takuma and Takei). Nakatani is I believe co-promoted by Teiken in Japan and Top Rank in US, and not sure if Nishida already switched from 3150/Kameda promotions to Teiken yet.

            I was thinking Nishida/Edwards would be a pretty safe championship bout. Both guys are great boxers who can't crack an egg.

              Can't say I'm surprised that Andrew Cain's not be mentioned, but that's the next one I want to see Charlie fight!!.......
