Comments Thread For: Erislandy Lara, at 41, is still a problem - but what is his endgame?

When analyzing the long arc of middleweight titleholder Erislandy Lara's career, context is everything. To casual fans, he may be just another fighter. But to the hardcore fight crowd, Lara, 41, is quite literally a national treasure.

It would be nice if the link actually worked. C’mon, Boxingscene.

Anyway, Lara is looking old for sure. Got some thinning on the crown of his head and everything. Don’t know how much he got paid for that joke of a fight with Danny, but he should be ready to cash out soon. If I was Landy I’d look to take a relatively safe fight next, and await Canelo’s next PPV.

Probaly until someone beats him i imagine but guys like Zerafa and Danny Garcia are not gonna do that. He still has enough about him to beat guys like that comfortably. I think he'd beat Adames but Janibek if hes still fighting at 160 in the near future probably could beat him. Lara is old but he's such a tricky boxer and he's very good at getting guys to fight at his pace.. Lara vs Sheeraz could be a good fight aswell.

The only thing I took away from this long and boring article is the absurd implication that GGG ducked Lara. GGG would have stomped a mudhole in Lara.

What is Lara's endgame? To make as much money as possible. Spence, Thurman, Charlo. The inactive PBC all stars. They will all get a shot at the old man.

writer is a complete clown, liar, and sycophant. its just a propaganda puff piece to hype up a guy he is in bed with. ggg in no way avoided lara. they werent even in the same division. lara was with pbc who didnt want their fighters network jumping for political reasons. oh yeah and there is this "We got to make more money than what he's made in the past for Golovkin."

so he wants more money to fight ggg then he got vs canelo? where did all this big boy talk go? when the fight even had an inkling of a possibility of happening he killed it with that quote. it was all publicity using ggg's name to pump lara up and they are still doing it...till this day.

oh yeah another fun fact, lara has not beaten a top 10 opponent since 2016. hes just hanging on collecting checks. is he ever going to fight someone in the top 10? 8 frickin years wow. sad. pathetic.

At least Garcia lasted into the late rounds, unlike that bum from down under

Erislandy Lara could fight. One can easily make a case that he should still be undefeated. Yes, he put a real good paint job on Danny Garcia just as I expected.

No one has ever been able to decisively defeat or dominate him. Every loss or Draw he has ever had have all been very questionable and controversial.

He defeated both Paul Williams and Canelo Alvarez easily and the fight with Jarrett Hurd was close because he chose to stay in the pocket and ate more punches than usual.

However, despite the knockdown; Many boxing fans still had him winning that fight too.
