We all knew going in that the matchups stunk, but you never know until it all actually plays out. Well, the results are in; and the stench of one of — if not the — worst boxing PPV cards of all time is thick in the air. Rolly just sucks; and the fact that he won means we have to put up with his nonsense for longer than we should. Lara-Garcia was beyond pathetic — even worse than anyone imagined. Canelo-Berlanga was the utter mismatch everyone knew it would be. Does anyone doubt now why Saul has avoided Benavidez? Plant-McCumby was simply nowhere near enough to justify this joke of a PPV. Fans must vote with their feet and walk away from these ridiculous products we’re being offered. $90 for a bag of hot garbage? Haha No thanks.
Was Last Night’s PPV The Worst Ever?

I don't think it was a great card. I think some ****ty matchups turned out to be good entertainment.
Entertainment value was OK. But it's crazy to think that anyone paid $90 for this and thought 'this is going to be a great night of boxing'Comment

First Canelo fight I haven’t bought in years. We all knew going in that the matchups stunk, but you never know until it all actually plays out. You always kind of hope whether you buy it or not that the fights turn out better than expected, but PBC has a major dud with those fights.
The Garcia bout bummed me out. It ends not with a ****, but a whimper. Danny and his dad seemed just submissive and like they wanted to not only NOT be in the fight, but they wanted to just get away from the arena but the sport of boxing in general.
Garcia looks like his crisis or mental illness stems from financial obligations (kids) and probably a sense of having to hoist up his family (dad, mom, sisters) additionally.
He said in interviews that when he retires his FATHER would have a harder time walking away.
The combination of inactivity, not having his hunger anymore, and age all caught him up to him. I don’t think people would be upset in the slightest if he had gone out there and at least tried. It felt like a casual “let me see if I still got it. Maybe I can still—*WHAP!*
Oh!…Never mind. Yeah, I’m done.”
I wish him the best.
I loved how he basically had two major upsets in Khan and Matthysse and then underperformed in his biggest fights.
I honestly think he was just a company man and followed Haymon’s suggestions to a tee.
The highly unnecessary Rod Salka fight and long layoffs were also a big knock on him.Last edited by TintaBoricua; 09-15-2024, 10:15 AM.Comment

I never had any issues with Danny; he always seemed like a decent enough guy. It’s his dad that always rubbed me the wrong way. I don’t even hate on him for landing this fight. How can you fault a guy for that? I blame the promotors, and the fans that made this farce possible. It’s disgraceful that a hard-working, worthy contender wasn’t afforded a shot at Lara under the lights. Anyone who paid for this stinkfest deserves what they got.

Lara/Garcia is just a bad matchup. Two guys who would rather their opponent be the aggressor in an effort to counter when they see an opening. In their primes, it would be a bad style matchup and it's even worse at this stage of their careers.
Poor choice to make that fight the chief support.Comment

Horrendous choice. You’re right, even under the best of circumstances it would’ve been bad. Besides the fact that they’re both counterpunchers, Danny’s best weight was 140. He lost a lot when he moved up. Lara is basically a career 154 lber. Never would’ve worked. Then you throw in Garcia’s inactivity and Landy’s age. Although it’s no surprise how it all turned out, it was even worse than I imagined.Lara/Garcia is just a bad matchup.
