  • Comments Thread For: Naoya Inoue-TJ Doheny undercard set for September 3

The undercard is set for Naoya Inoue's undisputed junior featherweight title defense against TJ Doheny on September 3 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo. Four-division champion Inoue, 27-0 (24 KOs), is one of the leading fighters in the world while Australia-based Irishman Doheny is 26-4 (20 KOs) and popular in Japan after several underdog victories in the Land of the Rising Sun.

I sure will be rooting for Barroso. After the screw job that was done to him against Romero , this guy deserves everything good that can happen for him. I'd love to see him win a world title to make up for the one that was stolen from him.

Surprised there's nothing for Takuma or Koki Inoue. One or both of them usually fight on Naoya's undercard.

They wanted to make a card where all the matches ends in a KO. Given their fight styles I will be highly surprised if any of them ends in a decision.

The joke aside excluding the May Tokyo Dome card I think Naoya and Takuma aren't run as a set as much by Ohashi to begin with. If anything its Takei who's been literally a staple on the Naoya undercard, having been on all of it from the Butler fight and on, making Doheny card the fifth in a row. I also heard rumors that Takuma is going to be fighting Seiya Tsutsumi in a voluntary defense around October or November to fulfill the prize for the bantam monster tourney that he won (against the tragic Kazuki Anaguchi) during the semi of Inoue-Tapales.

I'm always looking forward to an Inoue fight, but in terms of unpredictable exciting fight I am looking forward to the Barroso-Hiraoka fight. I think Barroso has the edge odds wise, but youth is on Hiraoka's side and no matter what two KO power guys going at eachother is always exciting.

To me and I know I'm hyper critical, this is a step back for Inoue, a vote of no confidence. Like Hannibal at the walls of Rome, or more recently, Japan at Pearl Harbor. Retreat on the heals of victory.

Not only that but I'm also looking forward to jin sasaki's fight. He has been rising through the ranks at 147.

Inoue v Casimero in a neutral venue outside of Japan will be the only credible fight imo
