Canelo thinks he is as big star as Tyson Fury

Fury has to fight a #1 or #2 Heavyweight for that type of money. Canelo is making $35 million fighting the Berlangas, Saunders, and Callum Smiths of the world. Fury took legit damage by Usyk for that big pay check, Canelo makes basically the same amount with 2 fights but only has to fight a bum like Berlanga or a bum like Smith who laid down for him. Canelo's route to $100 million is clearly the smarter business move (for him, not for boxing fans).
Nobody cares about being famous in Europe or the Middle East. There is a reason why so many Euro actors travel to Hollywood and NY, not the other way around.Last edited by El Más Loco; 08-18-2024, 04:41 PM.Comment

Fury’s net worth is reported at $50 million so where’s all that going? Canelo’s close to $300 million.
Canelo makes money off the purse, sponsors and all the money from his tv deal to show his fights in Mexico.
Fury made that for one fight he lost and won’t see that again. I’ll take the consistent $50-70 million paydays over a one hit wonder. I like Fury but he earns no where near Canelo’s career earnings. Not close.Comment

Not a comparable situation. We are talking about boxing here not Hollywood. Its a niche sport in the US nowdays. The fact that Canelo, a Mexican who barely speaks English, is the biggest draw there now, highlights this. He is not a proper global star like Mike Tyson, Ali, Floyd etc were.Comment

The topic was Canelo and Fury. Nobody said anything about Mike Tyson, Ali, or Floyds star power.

Like I said, boxing is a niche sport in the US today. It is a mainstream sport in the UK, and UK sports overspill into the rest of the European market to a much larger extent than American sports do. So it isnt as simple as "Canelo is bigger in the US so Canelo is bigger".Comment

Fury could make top dollars fighting bums as well but he at least fought the best and didn't chicken out and cherry pick (apart from the filler fights).
You'll never know how much they are really worth so it's a futile discussion... Fury must have made a packet from his endorsements and TV show on Netflix (which was number 1 apparently and signed up for a 2nd year).. but once again who cares..
The richest footballer is not Messi or Ronaldo BTW but Flamini.. very good player in his day but not super popular outside of England or France.... https://www.givemesport.com/mathieu-...fter-football/Comment
