  • Comments Thread For: Mandatory assignment compounds Jaron 'Boots' Ennis' pursuit of prominence

In need of a big fight to lift his popularity closer to the astounding heights of his talent, Philadelphia's Jaron "Boots" Ennis instead gained another anchor on his quest with the IBF assigning him a mandatory date against a fighter he's also convincingly defeated.

I don't follow sanctioning bodies and promoters like many do on this site because they all seem crooked to me. Is this routine for IBF? This seems like a total shame. The belts seem like bachelors degrees these days - worth very little.
I can't wait for the day when collectively nobody cares about belts any more.

Quite right too. Boots looked less than impressive in the first fight but is being lauded as a superstar. He's fought no one and beaten no one.

Karen beat Scarff in what I believe is an eliminator. IBF can be infuriating with their rankings. Since Benn is #3 in the IBF, it would be nice if Ennis could fight Conor rather than have another 12 round track meet with the Ukrainian.

Very confusing all around. He has a mandatory to fight a guy he already beat. Wth. He prob isn't facing Barrios or anybody else worthwhile for... ever maybe?

And Davis is going to pick up a belt left behind by Haney. And that will be vs who?

Bootys career so far is more than a joke, karen is his level; enough of this joker, move to 154 bridesmaid!

I am no expert on these matters but my perception is the IBF is a bit different because they always seem to strictly adhere to their rules regarding mandatories (even when it seems not to make sense or even be a detriment to the sanctioning body). The IBF recently stated Canelo would be stripped of the IBF strap since he's not fighting their mandatory William Scull. I imagine this is why it's probably the least coveted belt for fighters and promoters.

The other issue is the IBF rankings which are populated with fighters most fans never heard of. I would have less issues with the IBF if they had better rankings but I think many fighters prefer not to be ranked by them.

A fan-centric approach to ultimate superstardom and casual fan awareness SHOULD be the taxicab/Uber method.
Does the typical cab driver make more at the end of the day waiting around for the unicorn high-paying airport run or does he make out better taking as many fares as possible to just keep that meter running. The answer is to just keep taking fares and keep that cab busy all the time. At the end of the day, they make more money.

I wish a guy like Boots who says he wants to be the superstar that eve casual fans will pay to see in the ring would adopt the same strategy. Fight ALL the time. Tale ALL comers. If he's as good as he says he is, he should be confident to keep winning. More exposure means more fans means higher gate and PPV.

He's at the right place in his career to at least TRY.
I know I may sound naive but if fan interest is waning because of high ticket prices coupled with a fight every 18 months, let's at least see what happens with a different paradigm.

Boots gets told he is a potential legend by folks like breadman, i can only conclude he has become a protected asset in a glass cage, casuals have never heard of him, and i agree with you he should be fighting all the time, self promotion is his responsibility.
