It don't matter if you have belt cause if you don't beat a champion, then you ain't a champion. It's simple as that.

At least Norman beat a good fighter in Santillan, a guy coming off a good win. He earned it as much as it can be earned at this point, with boxing being so ridiculous now.

The sport has been eclipsed by ufc. Many of the fighters know they aren't as great as advertised and so they refuse to ever fight a challenge, knowing that since Floyd made the "0" the most important thing in the sport, now one loss can derail a career. Throw in all of the belts and the organizations wanting to stay relevant and never actually forcing mandatories so they can keep their "stars" happy.....

It is amazing to think that there was a time when beating the best to be the champ meant something. A zero loss career wasn't even in the vernacular, it was an oddity, and guys who fought valiantly and lost saw their stock RISE.

Boxing is dying a slow death.Turki comes along offering big money for fights the fans want to see. And some of the fans say it is a bad thing because they don't want see the best fight, they don't want "their guy" to lose.

F'in stick a fork in it.

Teofimo doesn't want to fight Brian Norman because he'd get his ass kicked. That's all it is. Everything else is rationalizing and deflection , or b.s. as it's called.

I hate it when the email titleist loses the title in his first defense. Like he didnt earn it and didn't deserve it.

Isn't the whole reason to become the Interim Champion to be the new champion if the "Real Champion" doesn't or can't fulfill his obligations ? Nobody just made Norman the Interim Champion out of the blue. He fought Santillan for it.
It's fine with me if they do away with Interim Titles and just have #1 and #2 fight for the title once a Champion is stripped , but isn't that what was supposed to have happened to create an "Interim Champion" in the first place ?
It's pretty much the same thing either way. Apples and Oranges.

You make some good points but as we saw with Spence v Crawford a really good fight with name guys will draw as much attention as a ufc card.

Boxing needs to structure the cards like they used to. Like when Roy v Bhop 1 was the semi main to a hwt title fight. Or how Chavez and Canelo would be the semi main to Tyson and Floyd.

Like Bivol v Bieterbiev should be the semi main to Canelo v Benavidez or AJ v Dubois, with Tszyu v Muratazaliev as the opener.

Of course if it’s ppv, mofos gonna steal it. lol.

That's why defenses matter on a resume IMO. In my book, you move from being a titlist to being a champion after you defend the belt against the next best available guy if you won a vacant belt or got upgraded by email. Defenses of a secondary belt complicate things.

I really wish the alphabet organizations would rank each other's champions and contenders. As it stands, the alphabet top 10 ends up being more like top 75, with some guys ranked who are real head scratchers as to how they ended up in their spots. Actually I really wish they would just merge, but that's like wishing that boxing wasn't corrupt.

Norman's win over Santillan is honestly better than any win Boots has. Not saying emailing a title is right, but under this circumstance, Norman was the Interim champ that beat a credible contender, a #1 vs. #2. He didn't get a titled emailed as a consolation prize.
