  • Comments Thread For: Canelo Alvarez, focused on Edgar Berlanga, puts Turki Alalshikh on pause

    Saul "Canelo" Alvarez doesn't like to discuss future plans when he has a fight on his immediate schedule, and he emphasized how that point applies even when pressed by Turki Alalshikh.

    Looks like Turki and Canelo butting heads. I am the boss - no I am the boss. Hahaha, let's see what happens but does not look good for Canelo going forward. He is going to run out of credible opponents if he does not want to fight Crawford, Benavidez, Bivol, Beterbiev. Who will pay him $35M to watch another lame fight?

      His loyal fights will eat up his PPV and next he’ll fight Mayorga. It’s actually a great fight if you think about it. Mayorga is awkward, has power in both hands and is not afraid of anyone and more important, all of Nicaragua supports him. That will be the argument you’ll be hearing. So yes, Canelocwill make $35 million.
      The interesting thing is Canelo can make upwards of $90 million fighting Benavidez without the involvement of his excellency. Every boxing fan will buy that fight.

          Wasn't Mayorga last seen literally lying KO'ed by the side of a dust road somewhere? It was a really depressing and random pic.

            Turki has done brilliantly so far with fights that would have never happened but he's chasing one here that shouldn't. Spend your money wisely Mr.Turki there's much bigger and better.

              The last credible opponent Canelo fought was GGG III. This fight with Berlanga was planned after Canelo wanted another easy fight and asked Hearn to sign him and Hearn would get a cut.

              I believe it was constant writing from people like myself and many others who despite the bad advice Turkie was getting from his lap dogs Hearn, Warren, and the new sycophant Spencer Brown, that woke Turkie up and got him off the Canelo v Crawford mismatch bandwagon.

              Canelo v Benevidez and Crawford v Boots, are the only big fights between 147-168 that makes any sense.

                So you’re telling me Canelo-Eubank Jr is less
                of a mismatch than Canelo-Crawford supposedly would be because Eubank Jr wouldn’t have to jump up weight classes? Canelo-Crawford would be a competitive fight;
                not sure why fans who should want to see the best fight the best are talking this down. What other interesting fighter would Canelo even think of fighting? And stop with the Benavidez fantasy - that fight ain’t ever happening.

                  He sure was but he’s a better choice than Benavidez according to Canelo and his fans.

                    Always interesting to see two people who are used to getting whatever they want interact with each other. Both seem like entitled divas. Turki tosses money around expecting everyone to kiss the ring and Canelo turns his chin away and says he will talk on his timetable....

                    On a different topic, the article mentions Csnelo fighting in Japan (dust off Ryoto Murata perhaps?) because he admired Oscar Larios who fought in Japan but then quotes Canelo referencing Jorge Linares. I always used to get Larios and Linares mixed up back in the day...
