Hot Rod is long and lanky and has a difficult style to deal with, that being said it was a learning experience for Morrel, the pro game is different than the amateur game and the young Cuban should take something away from that fight and improve

This was my first thought. Morrell has some talent but has fought nowhere near a level of comp warranting such massive hype. Reminds me alot of Ennis. You can't always tell until you see a guy in against a really dangerous fighter.Comment

Ok, I didn’t see the fight; but that said, I have a few observations that everyone so far seems to be overlooking. One: Morrell fought twice last year, and this is his first fight in a new division this year. Two: in the two fights David had in 2023, he got a total of three rounds of work — THREE. Three: Not only was this Morrell’s first fight at 175, but it was against a pretty good opponent — not an easy out in a new division. Four: Aidos Yerbossynuly nearly took David the full distance, only getting KOed in the last 26 seconds of round 12. Was that supposed to have “exposed” Morrell? I’m sure a lot of people thought so then, but David tore through his next two opponents like a buzzsaw. Who’s to say that won’t happen at 175? I see nothing but people on this thread knocking Morrell’s fans for “hyping” him, yet these same people are doing exactly the same in reverse. Wait and see. It’s only one fight. Same thing goes for Benavidez. He didn’t impress in his 175 debut. So what? Time will tell. It always does.
