  • Comments Thread For: 'It's now or never' for Errol Spence Jr.

As great as he was in winning three welterweight belts, filling an NFL stadium, engaging in fight-of-the-year caliber bouts and returning from a horrific car crash, Errol Spence Jr. has been out of the ring following his worst loss yet and his return date is unknown.

I must say I am seriously concerned for Spence. To quote from his interview "It’s not too many people that go high speed in a Ferrari and get thrown from a Ferrari, land on solid concrete and still be here to talk today, still survive, still be coherent and everything."

I remember watching his interview before the Crawford fight and thinking - he can barely talk and he is not coherent, he has no business being in the ring. Yes, he survived, but he has definitely paid the price and it was very sad to watch him talk.

Spence’s peak was going to England and beating kell Brook for the IBF. At the time kell was the top WW. I thought Spence was gonna really be something special but that car crash really changed things. I hope he retires

Spence's peak was his candidate for Fight of the Year against Shawn Porter. He had his car accident afterwards.

While it probably plays steady on his mind that avenging his loss against Crawford would be nice, I don't think Spence really wants to get back in the ring.

He's done so much damage to his body, I doubt he could mentally talk himself into getting into wars in the ring with the likes of a Crawford, Boots, Fundora, Thurman, Charlo Tzysu, etc..

It might be wise to just retire instead of going through the motions, if that's all he's going to do. To get in the ring with such threatening opponents, would require much sacrifice. I dunno is Spence could put in the work anymore.

Spence has a great personality. I'd like to seem him serve as a commentator/analyst for some PPV team.

I think he's in a good place financially....

Anything from Spence himself? The guy is inaccessible to the media, isn't he? Why is he letting Porter speak for him? Who cares what Porter has to say about things that is personal to another fighter?

Last thing that was really heard, was him calling for Fundora after the fight with Tim.

If Bud beats Madrimov, and gets Canelo next, I expect Fundora-Spence to be made.

If Bud doesn’t get Canelo, and goes after Fundora, I’m not sure. Maybe bypass 154, and fight Lara-Garcia winner? I doubt it, but maybe, especially Garcia pulls the upset.

I’ve always enjoyed watching Spence, but retirement is probably the best option for his health/well being

Sure...but he didnt sound enthusiastic about it. I'm sure he was ready to get in the ring to challenge Tszyu but those plans got junked. At that point the wind seemed to go out of his sails as the dollar signs wound way back. Fighting a young undefeated champ sure....fighting the guy many think got lucky....not as much shine.

I wish he would sign with Matchroom but I believe he is damaged goods now. All the years of living a fast life has finally caught up to him. His inactivity, lack of will, dedication and commitment to the ring have shaved several years off his career. Right now his career trajectory is about a year or two away from being gatekeeper status.
