NORTH HOLLYWOOD, California - Janibek Alimkhanuly's career is caught in a precarious position. The unified middleweight champion and 2016 Olympian has well-rounded skills to compete on the world level, is backed by one of the sport's biggest promoters in Top Rank and managers in Egis Klimas, and is showcased on primetime television on ESPN, headlining five fights in a row.

Jeez this guy. Needs to fight a live body rather than being gifted titles.

He's actually following pretty closely in GGG's shoes. He's already 31 and outside of hardcore boxing fans no one know who he is unfortunately. At least GGG had just started fighting some name fighters around that point. And it'll probably be at least another year or two before he fights anyone of note... Guy's talented they need to get him in there with someone.

Too bad middleweight is a barren wasteland right now... Hard to be a superstar when there's nobody to fight, and the few bigger names have already ducked you (looking at you, Andrade and Charlo).

He's no GGG and at this point GGG career (8 years in) he'd already fought some recognizable names like Ishida, Macklin, Rosado and Stevens.

Only name that's somewhat decent one Zhanibeks resume is Brant as a former champion but even that's questionable not as a win but is so far as being "decent"...

Shareez was offered the fight but his trainer didn't want it.

GGG wasn't a "Superstar", he was a star in the boxing world, and that's it.

The division is just not bursting as a talent pool to have a superstar and I don't see fighters coming up to produce needed rivalries. Maybe in 2-3 years if new talent comes along and the division finds a new set of glory days. It's a no for now.
