Comments Thread For: Kazuto Ioka, an appreciation

Kazuto Ioka might be a future hall-of-famer but why are so few talking about him? One reason might be that his fights, at least for American audiences, are hard to find. Another is that his Japanese countryman, Naoya Inoue, has stolen all the headlines thanks to his spectacular style.

Case in point; I love both technical action fights as well as these divisions he campaigns in, so I am exactly the audience who would likely really enjoy him and his style Yet I have never seen him fight, and to my knowledge never even had the opportunity to do so.

The whole lowerweights 4 kings Chocolatito, Rungvisai, Cuadras, and Estrada makes no sense.

When in reality the real 4 kings should have been Inoue, Chocolatito, Donnie Nietes, and Ioka.

Donnie, Inoue, and ioka all got avoided. While chocolatito avoided Inoue which got him caught up with Estrada, Cuadras and Rungvisai loophole fighting for only the wbc belt.

Ioka wasn't at 115 yet when Inoue was there. That being said I'm still wondering why Estrada was unwilling to unify with Ioka but chose to fight Bam who was definitely a more dangerous opponent.

Wonder if he thought he would win easier via decision by fighting in US against Bam, which was correct given the crazy scores at the time of the KO.

Ioka might not be at 115. But Chocolatito and ioka and Estrada were all at 112. But they all avoided Ioka. Same with Donnie Nietes. Same with Inoue. Inoue was the no 1 ranked fighter at 115 by both The Ring and TBRB. But no one will fight him. Estrada was Inoue's wbo mandatory but decided to go the wbc route.

            Good thread.
Definitely future HOF, and arguably top 10 P4P now.
He'll have a good case if he beats Martinez.

I think it's inevitable winner gets Bam next.

The interesting thing about Bam vs Ioka is, Franco fights similar to his brother Bam. They are both very aggressive, physical, and throw a lot of power punches up and down.
Ioka comfortably outboxed Franco. While Bam is certainly better, and in his prime than his brother. Ioka is a slick, counter puncher, that's better than the version of Estrada now.

Estrada avoided Ioka for whatever reason. He claims it was money, even though he must have made a lot less on the Bam fight. It sounds like a calculated decision by Gallo. He prob thought he would outbox Bam easier than Ioka......

But how do we watch this? A lot of japanese fights, and others, arent shown on normal channels.
