A pound isn't that hard to lose.
If you are a fat pig that weight 220 it ain't but a boxer who his fat mass is at a very low % it is. Remember COtto vs Malignaggi???. We will see how Cotto will look in the weight in and then we will definetly know.

The posters who are saying "a pound is nothing" are guys with 20% (or more) body fat who are very unathletic.

A pound literally is nothing to them. Just a few Krispy Kremes, perhaps.

If you are in shape, and have already drained 13-14 pounds to make weight, and additional pound MAY be a lot.

Miguel could have stayed in the sauna 30 minutes too long. And perhaps that 146 was why he looked lackluster in the ring.

Here is a specific example for those weight classes: Paulie Malignaggi has been fighting at 140. And making it regularly. He said that 138.5 was tough to make for Diaz. For the rematch, he was pretty adamant that it be at 140, and only through tough negotiations did they agree to 139.

Paulie is about 150 in the ring.

In high school, I wrestled. I was walking about at very lean/high school/kinda skinny athlete body at about 176. I was wrestling at 167. So, I would make weight. It was tough because we had day of weigh -ins. By the time they reached our matches, I would have 3-4 hours. Oranges, candy bars and water.

Our 178 guy became injured, and i had the wrestle-off and won so i moved up to 178. Now, I could work out and never have to worry about making weight and i was walking around at 180 (growing anyway) and making weight easily at 178. And felt MUCH better.

I'm still lean, but couldn't make LHW to save my life.

He weighed in 146 for his last fights too. Stop acting like you know what your talking about you just sounding dumber. What are you trying to prove here that Pac is fighting a weight drained fighter? Not going to work. Do you think Mayweather somehow looks better by trying hard to discredit a win by Pac?

mannys ****in ****** man. the limelight got to his head. everybody stop defending pacquiao on this. if he wants the welterweight belt, let them fight at the welterweight limit. its annoying when people can defend pacquiao on weight and competition and criticize mayweather for doing basically the same thing.

I have no problems with this fight being at a catch-weight, but I do have a problem with the title being on the line when the weight limit is 147. The weight limit of the class is 147, so as long as he is 147 or under, it should be all good. Everyone who keeps saying that the one pound doesn't make a difference clearly never had to make a weight in boxing/wrestling/mma. You can't "****" off a pound like some of you guys are claiming. 1 pound is 16 ounces of water...that is a lot of extra sweat to squeeze from your body. It is also possible that he is training to make the weight, and not doing the proper training to win the fight. Lastly, since people keep bringing it up....the Mayweather-Marquez fight was contracted at 147 with a stipulation that if either fighter weighed over 144, they would have to pay 300k per pound. Had Marquez been the one to be over 2lbs, he would have either had to lose the weight or pay the money as well.

                      Exactly.

And if 1 pound was extremely easy, then FMJ would have come in at 145 and saved 300K. Malignaggi would have said "Sure, 138 is fine". Castillo, Campbell, Guzman, etc would have had no issues.
