Doesn't Canelo have a built in excuse to duck Benavidez this time around since David's hand is busted up and probably won't be ready to fight on September 14th? That's 13 weeks away and from what I read you need like 6-12 weeks to heal if it requires surgery and 4-6 weeks if it's "only stretched, not torn." Even in a best case scenario I don't see David being ready to fight on 9/14. Of course, that's exactly what Canelo likes: opponents not at 100% (short notice, catch weights, rehydration clauses, not on PEDs like he is, etc.).

Yes. Generally a fan of Canelo, but he should have fought his mandatories, or at least been honest about it. Benavidez gets all the attention, but Morrell was mandatory for a year longer, and Canelo never defended his WBA belt. He's only defended WBC and WBO.

On a different subject within this article - regarding the WBC stripping Crawford and elevating Barrios - Sulaiman (aka Canelo's Lemmiwinks) said:

“We have been very open in every case to try and have a fighter get undisputed and stay undisputed,” Sulaiman said, explaining he only altered the title of the undisputed welterweight champion Terence Crawford because Crawford wanted to move up to junior middleweight for his Aug. 3 bout against the WBA champion Israil Madrimov. “We have done everything possible in all weight categories.”

But, the WBC didn't strip Canelo when he went up to fight Bivol at 175 after being undisputed. This dude can't keep his lies straight. For the record, Crawford should have been stripped because he's made no indication he's interested in defending any of those belts. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy.

Paula is so jealous of Canelo! Paula so Floyd ducking Pacman for 5 years, but breaking a record for fighting him after he was almost killed by Marquez wasn’t, because he be indicated for breaking PPV record! What a bunch of horse this Paula is. Get it through your heads Canelo fights who he wants, when he wants and he is Mexican. After Floyd show me someone else with this star power? Suuuuuuckers!

Is Canelo actually going to fight Benavidez in 2024?

One thing I don't understand about Boxing is how it's governed and how fights are made. I have followed the belts a little bit but don't understand how or why certain fights get ordered.

Imagine yourself being a top boxer with a great resume padded with Hof's ,both former and current world champions and still be called a duck for not fighting ONE dude with way less accolades, less divisions conquered, a halfed ass resume and on top of that knowing that this guy got stripped twice off his belt for undiscipline.

              These guys arent Benny's fans.

Lance pugmire is just a hating idiot. Nelo fought Floyd Mayweather at 23 years old. Fought all the reigning champions at 168 to be undisputed. Fought Miguel Cotto, Gennady golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Dmitry Bivol, Shane Mosley, James Kirkland, Austin trout, and this clown has the nerve to call him a duck just because he doesn’t wanna give haters the fight they want when he’s done that his whole career

You dont seem to understand what a duck is. You can fight 100 champions but you can still duck someone at the same time, its not complex.

I don’t like saying duck. It’s impossible to fight everyone. But when you’re actively avoiding a particular opponent. When there has been ample opportunity to take on a challenger, especially one who’s been in a mandatory position, and a match up that a lot of people call for and want to see. One that makes sense financially, and you come up with reasons why it’s not happening, it’s a duck.

This meets the criteria for a duck.

And idk if Canelo does box him or not. If he does, he knows it would be the last bout of his career. He’s saving it as his farewell bout. Similar to De La Hoya and Pacquiao. And that’s not even saying that Benevitez would be as great as Canelo is, or was.

He would just be his successor. And that’s if Benevitez wins, which I think he would if they do meet up. But they have to do it.

Yeah right fight 100 champions but you're still a duck for not fighting a no champion.

                      Great logic.
