My jab at Merk was just about him holding pads for Roy and wiping him with towel while Roy casually looked elsewhere between rounds.

And as soon as he got KOd it was like I'm outta here.
Tim Lane is the guy that was coaching Algieri when he got floored 6 times by Pacquiao. The hardest knockdown was while Lane was being interviewed in the fight.

Without a doubt he’s the worst trainer. Wilder’s on a terrible losing streak with dude in his corner. WTF was he even thinking making someone he KO’d in one round his main trainer.

Algeiri's coach was sorta infamous for 'keeping Chris in a cage', also his 'round 1' line. You'd have to go back and watch the corner in the fight, it's pretty funny, Chris had no business being in there with MP, was getting beat pillar to pillar, and his coach was like 'next round I'll let you out of your cage' and such to the beaten up Chris.

Anyways my vote for worst coach is Anthony Yarde's coach, Tunde. In the Kovalev fight Tunde put his nose in the air and proudly declared that he doesn't have Yarde spar. Tunde poo-poo'd traditional work and instead implemented his System 9 program, which as far as I can tell is just choreographed pad work. In the fight Yarde was gassed out by the 3rd round and Kovalev would go on to win the fight by KO via jab, so that tells you how much System 9 prepared Yarde.

The weight is a straw man. Wilder's problem has to do with his level of aggression, his ability to pull the proverbial trigger, letting his hands go, and indeed... Malik not recognizing the new and improved ambush strategy first employed by martinez, really coming to fruition with Haye, and used extensively by Wilder... All three men had quick feet, Martinez was actually a Soccer player... Only Wilder also had incredible reach.

The idea was to stay away, far away from the opponent until launching one's own attack. haye and martinez were masterful at it... But Wilder? Took it to another level with his reach. He could literally be anywhere in the ring and catch his opponent with a quick step. All he had to do was stay back off of the tentative Zhang... Instead he engaged him and even let him bully him into the ropes. Absolute unheralded approach from Wilder with no benefit and we saw the results. The old Wilder would never be in range of Zhang, would have Zhang tiring as he tried to catch him, and then would leap into Zhang explosively.

Now... Not shortchanging Zhang! Who could counter Wilder, something Zhang does well with very straight shots... But Zhang would not be allowed to push the action.

to be fair, Kovalev went life and death against green Yarde, that's why ginger made Kovalev an offer, either take the fight in short notice (no time to recover from the Yarde fight) or miss out on his (Kovalev's) biggest pay (retirement) payday. There should be a star next to Canelo's win against Kovalev, it looks impressive on paper, but under scrutiny, Kovalev was heavily damaged in the Yarde fight.

Don't think anyone could have done anything wilder to be fair.

Completely agree. Even with Helenius, Wilder was moving around way too much for my liking despite the first round KO. I do think he looked better in Fury 3 than Fury 2 however. It's just hard to really judge. Parker and Zhang are some of Wilder's best opponents, and he's also in his late 30's and has a lot of damage already.

I think that 3rd fight with Fury burnt Wilder out. Wilder reached too deep, for too long in the well and left a big piece of himself in the ring. That fight was very personal to him and to lose that way I think broke his confidence in his own power.

As Pac=Duran said, the guy that trained Algeri is the worst of all time because he wasn't just bad, he was delusional. He was watching his fighter get absolutely rag-dolled and sat there telling HBO "Yep. Chris is going to knock Pacquiao out any second."

Wilder is his own trainer post-Breland - Scott just laces his gloves for him.
