his last fight v beter was 5 yrs ago this october & take a look at his last three opponents after his retirement, they give no indication as to where his level really is because they are not good enough to show that, i suspect he will show up with a poor performance given his age retirement & level of opposition coming back last year

I tend to think in this direction too. What he was and what he is are probably two different things. At this point, I'm thinking the glory days are over.

I just don't see Gvozdyk holding up at 37. The Beterbiev fight took a lot out of him. Benavidez by mid to late round stoppage!

I'm thinking it's gonna be a Gvozdyk upset. If not, Benavidez will be twice as huge in the sport as he is now. Especially if he wins big. Real questions about where Gvozdyk is today, but he's had a HOF past. And he is a rather long and strong LHW. Benavidez will have to prove he can win this.

Admittedly they’re not elite level but they were good enough to get some measure. He’s been beaten a once by a prime Beterbiev. Skill wise he’s right up there with the Beterbievs and Bivols of this world. His footwork is excellent and he’s got a very fluid, silky smooth style. Not sure he carries huge power but he’s accurate and his timing is clearly still on point - that much is apparent from his recent fights. The only real question marks relate to his stamina and resilience and people are making assumptions about this based on his age. 3 years out of the ring might mean rust but it also means less damage. He’s essentially a young 37.

I do think Benavidez will catch up to him in the later rounds but I completely disagree that it’ll be a walk in the park. Gvozdyk is a damned good fighter and to suggest he’s shot based on a single defeat by the best fighter in the division is just utter garbage. It’s disrespectful to him and it’s belittling a victory for Benavidez which if he gets it should also be given the respect it deserves. To go up a division and take on a fighter of that calibre is a bold move.

always liked gvozdyk. he has fought better fighters in his career than benavidez too. usyk is 37 years old too. no one is calling him an old man. we'll see what happens. hope it's a very good competitive fight. i'm rooting for the nail.

You are aware that is the version of Gvozdyk that a 20 year old David battered in sparring? lol.

I am playing it risky in the PICK EM' thread and going for a late Gvozdyk KO with a x5 multiplier. Benavidez is the clear favorite and was my first choice, but I don't know, everything I'm seeing, reading, thinking back on, etc, leading up to this fight has me thinking MAYBE Benavidez is about to run into his version of Bivol and has made a big mistake.

I'm fücking excited no matter what happens. There's a real sense of mystery to this one.
