Those of you who are old enough to have watched Roy Jones Jr in his prime, just how good was he?

And that was why so many dislike him, he fought every #1 contender and more than anyone I can remember. And made everyone look like rookies.

Prime Roy Jones, Jr was damn good! Perhaps the greatest fighter of his generation and era. No, skill wise he was never the most fundamentally sound of fighters. However, he overcompensated this with both superhuman athleticism, speed, timing, reflexes and hand-to eye-coordination.

The closest thing to an unbeatable fighter I ever saw. Just a freak athlete, the same way Michael Jordan was able to do things on the court other players just weren’t physically capable of doing, Roy did things in the ring his peers simply couldn’t match.

Not the deepest resume like an Ali or a Robinson, but it was who he beat and how he beat them. Absolutely schooled B-Hop and Toney both in their physical primes, I think that speaks volumes alone.

Even though my username suggests otherwise, I wouldn’t actually call Roy the GOAT. I think the likes of Robinson, Armstrong, Ali and maybe a few others achieved more, had a greater impact, had more decorated careers etc but head to head I wouldn’t pick anybody over prime Roy. I think Dan Rafael famously said if the mythical matchup includes prime Roy Jones Jr, then the answer is prime Roy Jones Jr.

No he did not... In the Pacman fight neither guy took any real risks, it was pathetic.

Roy got exposed by relying on skills that faded... In boxing one often hears the addage: "A fighter can get old in a night," what happened to Roy is a perfect example of this addage. Forget the Tarver fight... Glencoff Johnson, using relatively decent pressuring took Roy apart. Anyone really think prime Jones would be dismantled by Johnson? Jones was great when he was on and lost his skills sets and became a punching bag.

Then you don't understand boxing. Mayweather schooled pacman after the first copule rounds. I don't remember how many. Maybe 4, and then he got run over

You say you don't know about his ROID abuse? He tested positive in 2000, and was likely on steroids before that time.

Three hall of fame fighters, four if you include Paz purely entertain value and heart. You have your opinion, I have mine.

I'm aware of the steroid accusations, but I haven't delved into the subject. Water under the bridge, I have no interest. If he did use, he's a cheat, if not, he's a great fighter. I have no skin in the game either way.

Roy made many legit top guys with skills look ordinary and beat them up, something not many top boxers can do in this era.

Lol. Then your an a s s as I am far from the only one with that opinion. Your strategy for proving a point is apparently to say "If you do not agree with me you lack knowledge" s t u p i d go argue with a 13 year old son...

There is no doubt, Jones jr is a PED cheater. Not if.

Possibly the best fighter I've seen, I always thought he was at his best at 168 but he only had a brief stay the weightclass.

Someone made a good comparison before about him and jordan being levels above everybody. That's certainly how it seemed at the time
