Comments Thread For: Oleksandr Usyk's Plan to Drop Down to Cruiserweight Might Be Unwise

Undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk claims he's considering moving back to cruiserweight following his Dec. 21 rematch with Tyson Fury, but history dictates that such a move would be unwise.

If he beats Fury again, he’s got zero more to prove. In fact right now he has nothing more to prove.

Hopefully not before Parker gets a crack at him, but even so there'll be another Pasifikan waiting for him in Opetaia.

Why not ride off into the sunset while you're on top. 38 is no spring chicken in boxing. Win or lose at Cruiserweight after being Undisputed at Cruiserweight and Heavyweight , no one will care. You've already been to the top of the mountain, down is what's next.

He should win those lame bridgerweight belts and burn them in the ring

Why the fuck would he do that stupid shit for? He'll never make the type of money he is making at heavyweight by dropping back down to Cruiserweight.

However, he's only breaking our balls. He is never going back to the Cruiserweight division. At this point he would struggle making the weight.

Also, he is 37 years old too.

If Usyk has to "eat all the time" to maintain 220-ish lbs, then his natural weight is probably around 210 and cutting 10 lbs in weight to make the cruiserweight limit on the scale the day before won't be a problem.

The 29 year old Opetaia (as of this June 30th) could be a problem, but not one Usyk shouldn't be able to handle.

Comparing apples and oranges. RJJ. jumped from light heavy to HW. Usyk was a cruiser who had to force 23 lbs. on his frame to go undisputed at HW.

He can easily lean up and make another run at cruiser. That's 5 more fights if he can line them up. I'm pretty sure if he beats Fury in the rematch he can get them all to fight. Money.

He beats Fury a second time, the next logical fight would be AJ, which he has nothing to gain from. If Dubois beats AJ, that might be a compelling storyline.
