Well my question is, if he had still been active and fought at the rate he was going. Would he be able to surpass Chavez Sr achievements wise. Honestly I think his ceiling would had been at 135 where he was planning to move up to against Arguello despite that the super featherweight division existed. He would had options like:

    World champions/titlists:
    Jim Watt
    Alexis Arguello
    Hilmer Kenty
    Sean O'Grady
    Claude Noel
    Arturo Frias
    Ray Mancini
    Livingstone Bramble
    Edwin Rosario
    Jose Luis Ramirez
    Hector Camacho
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Pernell Whitaker
    Charlie “Choo Choo” Brown
    Harry Arroyo
    Jimmy Paul
    Greg Haugen
    Vinny Pazienza

    Contenders:
    Ernesto Espana
    Howard Davis
    Alvin Hayes
    Kenny Bogner
    Greg Coverson
    Ruben Munoz Jr
    Cornelius Boza Edwards
    Terrence Ali
    Roberto Elizondo
    Robin Blake
    Tyrone Crawley
    Tony Baltazar
    Melvin Paul
    John Montes
    Charlie “White Lightning” Brown
    Darryl Tyson
    Chris Calvin
    Rodolfo Gonzalez
    Andy Ganigan
    Frankie Randall
    Meldrick Taylor
    Freddie Pendleton
    Roger Mayweather

Honestly think it is insane that Julio Cesar Chavez Sr vs Salvador Sanchez could had been a fight if it weren't for the circumstances. When it comes to their set of skills, I think Sanchez as a illusive counter puncher would had been the perfect foil for Chavez's relentless tactical aggression. More so when considering they were both known for their cardio and work rate.

      I seriously doubt that.
      Can't think of one, no.

Obviously he's not, so, it's not a surprise.

Very much doubt Sanchez beats Chavez or accomplishes what he accomplished either.

        Sanchez barely beat Pat Cowdell.

Agree to disagree, think it's a probability that he could had won if they fought considering their styles, though then again, don't know how he acclimate if he fought two divisions above against a particular big puncher. He was a big featherweight however.

Don't think he achieve as much however due to their differences in activity rate. Sanchez wasn't so sure if he wanted to continue as a pro boxer instead of becoming a doctor. Sadly he didn't get to live out his life and do either of those things.

He was the type of fighter that fought at his competitions level. If he fought unknown fighters he would struggle due overconfidence, if he was preparing to fight top level opposition, he perform spectacularly. Similiarly to Jesse "Bam" Rodriguez. He also struggled heavily against Ruben Castillo, though he won decisively because of the later rounds.

Hard to say isn't it, he was young when he died.

But I saw nothing of Sanchez, who of course as a quality fighter, to tell me he could beat Chavez.

True it is difficult to gauge how he perform without enough proof on Sanchez against top opposition. Might be too optimistic to think that his style would translate well if he moved up.

Nonetheless really impressive to beat undefeated HOF fighter like of one of Puerto Rico's best boxers in Wilfredo Gomez and Africa (Ghana) in Azumah Nelson. Also beat the man (Danny Lopez X2) who beat Mexico's previous idol Ruben Olivares by KO along with some accomplished champs like David Kotei and Chucho Castillo.

Do you think Sanchez should be rated higher than let's Barrera, Morales and Marquez skill and achievement wise?

Don't really rate his win over Nelson too highly, fought him on a weeks notice and wasn't the fighter he went on to become, also managed to still be competitive despite that.

Gomez is a great win, Lopez was a good fighter so yeah good wins. I think his resume is overrated by many.

In regards to Morales, Barrera and Marquez, erm, probably not, to be honest.

Azumah Nelson had an extensive amateur background and was 23 years old with a record of (13-0, 11 KOs), wouldn't say it was prime Nelson he beat, but pretty good win considering Sanchez was the same age.

Also that's a first reading that someone has the trio ahead of him. Though it is true that if they retired at their peak they have a similiar record to Sanchez, while he seemed to overwhelm his top competition more impressively. They had fought in multiple divisions in comparison. They also each individually had x2 wins over ATGs, some HOFs like Tapia, Casamayor and Hamed along with multiple well accomplished champions, just because Sanchez unfortunately couldn't continue while he was still improving doesn't mean he automatically gets to be rated higher.

I don't know, Guess I have to watch his fights against Lopez, Gomez, and Nelson again to compare. To see if he is actually that ahead skill wise.

Yeah no for me Azumah Nelson on a weeks notice clearly not either in his prime or in peak condition is not an overly good win to me.

Morales and Marquez wins over Pacquaio blow anything Sanchez did out the water.
