Comments Thread For: Gvozdyk Believes Beterbiev Is 'Falling Apart' As He Approaches 40 Years Old

Oleksandr Gvozdyk knows about Artur Beterbiev's prodigious power and potential far too well. Gvozdyk, 20-1 (16 KOs), suffered the only loss of his professional career to Beterbiev in 2019 during a light heavyweight title unification fight. The former WBC champion Gvozdyk was ahead on two scorecards but would get dropped three times in the 10th round en route to a knockout loss.

He's in his late thirties, so he should be okay. But yes, all the training and sparring does probably add wear and tear.

I'm over 40, and unfortunately although the mind wants to do everything as when you were younger, you can't train the same. You get aches and pains you would never have thought you could get.

Recovery time takes longer. Having said that, for boxers, if you're a huge puncher like Beterbiev and Foreman of the past, you can still win when older.

Gvozdyk isn't wrong. There's a lot of mileage on Beterbiev's odometer going back to the amateurs. He's been involved in some violent fights.

He's a phenomenal fighter but at some point, age and injury catch up to us all.

Gvozdyk still salty from being dismantled by Beterbiev.

Fact's! The aging process doesn't spare anyone, from the aches, pain, and breaks that come along with it.
Beterbiev is like an old car, he's constantly going in for repairs, his boxing odometer won't go past 2025, before it goes tilt.
He definitely is a very good/exciting champion ti watch defend his title, which he does his blood, sweat, power, and heart.
Tears just doesn't apply to this fighter as the old adage goes, because he's a stone faced killer (literally a power punching powerhouse) in the ring.

Those are the unfortunate fact's, but he's the living embodiment of the predator in the ring until he does finally brake down.

How can he be salty? The guy retired after that fight. If that isn't a 'he got my number, I haven't got it in me anymore' humility then I don't know what is

He has plenty to be salty about, he put up a hell of a fight against Beterbieiv, only to get rocked, dropped 3 times, and stopped in the 10th round.

Beterbiev is not making a 100% complete recovery from a torn meniscus at 39 yrs old - at least not if he has been operated on and likely not if it was a minor tear and he's just letting it heal up. For you or me we'd say the recovery is complete as we can jog, run a bit - but the strains a pro-athlete puts on their body is at another level.
And I do think he will need to be at 100% to beat Bivol. This fight should have been made 4/5 years ago.
