Guys like William Scull and Edgar Berlanga have absolutely no business being a mandatory challenger. Even if they fought each other, the winner still wouldn't be worthy of a shot. It should be guys like Benavidez, Morrell, Mbili, Gongorra, etc. Or the elite fighters in adjacent weight classes like Beterbiev, Bivol, or Janibek.
Morrell jr was mandatory for three years, did canelo fight him? We have benavidez for two years, same result, no canelo. Scull is almost two years old, regardless of what we think. The belts should have been taken back by the org, the moment canelo refused to fight his mandatories proclaiming he was the king, but the org's wanted the $$$ instead of following their own rules. Who's next? We know who.

My friend (a casual) asked me, isn’t David Benavidez better than this random guy William Scull?

Yes, yes he fcking is better. Way better. And yes he should be the mando for all 4 belts. All of them should rank Benavidez as the #1 contender. It’s such bullsh/t. Boxing is such an embarrassing sport to try to explain. It’s the worst sport to explain all the f/ckerry that goes on here.
yeah I agree . hate hate hate those moronic alphabets and hope I live long enough to see the day they are ruined

Boxing belts have less meaning and are bigger props than WWE belts so the IBF ruling doesn't matter.

I like that the IBF enforce their rules regardless of the status of the champion but they have to improve those rankings in terms of credibility.

The Beterbiev-Bivol winner is going to get ordered to fight Eifert in the division above for example, far too many mediocre fighters are ranked highly by the IBF.
They can't improve the rankings if boxers keep fighting under the other organizations, which are more malleable or manageable.

You’re telling me they can’t do better than Scull at 168? Or Eifert at 175? Or Mikhailovich at 160?

Their rankings are trash man. Out of those 3 IBF top rated guys I mentioned how many fights of theirs have you watched? I’ve watched one and that was Eifert vs Pascal.

Then the IBF should simply go out of existence.

The point of a championship is to determine the best fighter in the division, not to fill a vacancy and keep the sanctioning fees rolling in. If they can't convince the best fighters to compete for their belt, how are they any better than the joke ass IBO?

That's not true. The only fighters that don't get ranked because of their position in a different sanctioning body's rankings are world champions. For example, Mbilli is ranked at or near the top for every sanctioning body including the Ring. Honestly, I have no idea how Scull could've ended up so high when no one else has him ranked in even the top 15. Shishkin doesn't make much since either but at least shows up in the top 15 for a couple other bodies.
