Should have been a ref stoppage in round 9

Go listen to ProBoxTV and reeducate yourselves. Paulie and Chris Algeri said it best, fans forgot the rules because the refs forgot the rules. If a fighter falls into the ropes, they're well within their right to issue a standing 8 count. The ropes held them up. In fact, what the ref did was commemorable because another ref could have jumped in too soon and stopped it.Comment

The ref didn't do great and I didn't like that he blocked Usyk from throwing that final punch which likely would have turned Fury's lights out.
In the same breath he really could have ended it because Fury got seriously hurt and he needs to look at a boxer's wellbeing. Did anyone else see his eyes roll back after the first big hit? That was sickening to watch.Comment

I find it weird that people whinge about this too.
Yeah he could have stopped it but equally it isnt like Fury didnt recover.
The only issue or luck that happened is if the ref didn't issue the standing 8 - Usyk may have been able to put him out. But he had ample opportunity even then. Fury isn't an easy man to finish. We know this.
But in the main I'm certain people on here watch boxing merely to underpin a narrative they have created in a post or two on here.
Usyk deservedly won and was the better man on the night in a great fight. I really enjoyed it anyway which surely is the point of being a boxing fan.Last edited by Sparked_26; 05-19-2024, 09:07 AM.Comment

Never know, lot of people on social media were saying it was a standing 8 because he never went down, and were unsure if that even counted as a 10-8Comment
