Why did de la Hoya agree to fight Pacquiao at 147?

It was really ****** move back than. Ok, Pac was N.1. p4p fighter, but Oscar was a bigger draw and a cash cow. And he was a zombie at 147 than.

Maybe not the best comparison, but it was like Canelo would agree to fight Crawford at 160 now.

    $$$$$$, I suppose.....

"Despite this being De La Hoya's last professional fight, he earned a staggering amount of $20 million. On the other hand, Pacquiao earned a guaranteed $6 million."

To make the fight. Pacquaio at that point only ever had 1 fight above 130, he actually came in at 142 vs Oscar. Pacman also in his whole career never weighed above 147 and only weighed in 147 twice in his career. People can say De La Hoya drained all they want Pacman coming up and beating him was still impressive

Easier to beat a guy moving down than moving up.
Especially a guy with 1 foot out the door.

Most of Pac's big W's have issues

At the time it was considered by many as Arum cashing out Pacquiao and feeding him to the bigger ODLH for the payday. People were publicly concerned for Pacquiao’s well being in this fight.

On fight night Oscar was a zombie who couldn’t move and was a sitting target for Pac.

not even close... canelo is still the face of boxing so he's not in desperate mode, whereas for oscar, he was on his way out so a mega fight with pac would bring in big money and is the logical choice to make, 1 big fight earn that money and then retired, plus at the time, every boxer and they grandma was underestimating pac and his ability, oscar thought he could beat pac even at that stage in oscar's career... pac didnt earn his respect until after the cotto fight..
