  • As professional boxers, who has achieved more, Canelo or De La Hoya?

Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán (born 18 July 1990), commonly known as Canelo, is a Mexican professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in four weight classes from light middleweight to light heavyweight, including unified titles in three of those weight classes and lineal titles in two. Álvarez is the first and only boxer in history to become undisputed champion at super middleweight, having held the World Boxing Association (WBA) (Super version), World Boxing Council (WBC) and Ring ****zine titles since 2020, and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles since 2021.

Record of 60 wins, 2 losses and 39 wins via the way of knockout. He also had 2 draws.

Oscar De La Hoya (born February 4, 1973) is an American boxing promoter and former professional boxer who competed from 1992 to 2008. His accolades include winning 11 world titles in six weight classes, including the lineal championship in three weight classes. De La Hoya was nicknamed "The Golden Boy of boxing" by the media when he represented the United States at the 1992 Summer Olympics where, shortly after having graduated from James A. Garfield High School, he won a gold medal in the lightweight division, and reportedly "set a sport back on its feet."

Record of 39 wins, 6 losses and 30 wins via the way of knockout.

Hoya and it ain’t close. Matchmaking was tougher back then and Hoya beat the best, often times by KO. Bit off more than he can chew at 160 but his run from 135-154 was legendary.

by the way I am aware that Canelo is not yet retired but without much opposition at 168 and likely not willingly fight at 175. I think his career won't end much that better or worse at the end of his career.

                  Oscar achievements are:

At 130 after his debut, he had beaten:
-Jeff Mayweather (24-2-2) by 4 round TKO in his fifth bout
-Jimmy Bradahl (16-0) brother of Johnny Bredahl, was a WBO super featherweight champion by 10 round TKO.

                  At 135, he beaten:
-Jorge Paez (53-6-4) for the Vacant WBO title
-John John Molina (36-4) who had beaten Juan Laporte
-Rafael Ruelas (43-1, 36 KOs) who had beaten Jorge Paez, Darryl Tyson and Rocky Lockridge.
-Jesse James Leija (30-1) with two wins over Azumah Nelson and Micky Ward.
-Genaro Hernanddez (32-0-1) undefeated WBA super featherweight champion.

                  At 140, he beaten:

-Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (97-1-1, 79 knockouts) declining but still game, had beaten Frankie Randall to reclaim the WBC title in the rematch, Tony Lopez (45-4-1) who won a 10 round TKO against Greg Haugen and Scott Walker (22-3-1) after winning against 43-year-old Arguello. After six-win streak, the 33 year old Chavez fought a 23 year old De La Hoya who won by four round TKO.

-Miguel Angel Gonzalez (41-0) he had held the WBC title at lightweight for three years. He also had a draw with Chavez Sr after both Julio and Miguel had fought Oscar.

                  At 147, he had beaten:

-Arturo Gatti (33-4) a two division champion at 135-140, after his 5th round TKO by Oscar, he had a trilogy with Micky Ward, winning 2 out of 3 fights.

-Pernell Whitaker (40-1-1) who had beaten Buddy Mcgirt, Azumah Nelson, Greg Haugen, Roger Mayweather, Jose Luis Ramirez, and Wilfredo Rivera x2. The fight was close and many fans felt that Whitaker had won the fight. but considering it could go either way, it wasn't seen as a blatant robbery.

-Hector Camacho (63-3-1), declining but still game turning 35 years old. He was in a 19 win streak after his loss to Chavez Sr and Trinidad. Camacho had beaten Howard Davis Jr, Vinny Paz, Greg Haugen, Jose Luis Ramirez and Edwin Rosario.

-Wilfredo Rivera (27-2-2) who had retired nearly 50 year old Carlos Palomino and gave a very competitive bout with Whitaker in their first bout which is even seen as a controversial loss. Oscar won by 8th round TKO.

-Ike Quartey (34-0-1, 29 KOs) who was WBA Welterweight Champion, he had beaten Vince Phillips who went to beat Micky Ward and knockout undefeated Kostya Tszyu (18-0-1). The bout was close, from what I saw Quartey had taken over round 5 to the 10th after Oscar had won the initial four rounds, but De La Hoya made a comeback in the last two rounds. Both Oscar and Ike were knocked in the 6th round and De La Hoya scored another knockdown in the 12th round, overwhelming his opponent to the ropes in the end of the round.

                  At 154, he had beaten:

-Yori Boy Campas (80-5) IBF Champion after pulling the upset against Raul Marquez by TKO.

-Javier Castillejo (51-4) who was the WBC Champion. Oscar's first bout at 154.

-Fernando Vargas (22-1, 18 KOs) IBF and WBA Champion with wins over Yori Boy Campas, Raul Marquez, Wilfredo Rivera, Javier Castillejo, Ike Quartey and Winky Wright, Fernando had tested positive for a steroid called stanozol and had overwhelmed Oscar initially until he recovered and stopped him in the 11th round.

                  At 160, he had beaten:

-Felix Sturm (20-0) who became a champion at 160 and 168. Though the win can be considered quite controversial.

-Ricardo Mayorga (27-5-1) with two wins over Vernon Forrest at 147. The bout was held at 168 however.

                  Notes:

-He had won the gold medal in the Olympics after turning 19 year old three months later. Oscar had amateur career included 234 wins,163 by knockout, and six losses.

-His loss to Felix Trinidad is quite controversial.

-Shane Mosley had decidedly won in their first bout, but the rematch was seen as controversial. Especially considering Mosley had admitted on taking steroids from BALCO.

-Of the 17 champions listed as wins (Jeff and Rivera don't count), 11 were either knocked out or stopped. The only physically declining fighters he had beaten would have been Chavez, and Camacho.

-He has lost to 6 Hall of Famers in Mosley, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Trinidad, Bernard Hopkins and Manny Pacquiao.

I'd have to think about it but De La Hoya took on a tougher set of opponents so maybe I'd pick him
