'If there is any magic to “new school” Ben Davison it comes from Lee Wiley analyzing fight film of old school fighters. So it’s kind of hilarious to hear people praising Davison while in the same sentence putting down the old school that is actually responsible for his recent success'.
I would hope all young boxers study the greats. You would be mad not to. I remember a young Chris Eubank said no-one had anything to teach him about boxing &, my god, he took some flush shots as a result! No one, in their right mind, would sit down & start playing Jazz piano & not have tried to listen & learn from Fats Waller, Art Tatum or Oscar Peterson. Same thing with boxing.
