James knows 10% of 25M is not realistic. Yes trainers get 10% but all big trainers know and have prearranged agreements with their fighters that there’s a certain cap. 10% of such a large purse is extravagant.$350K for a bout of that magnitude ain’t right either. It’s 3 months out of the year maybe less most fighters don’t do 12 month camps. That’s why these things need to be discussed prior to any big money coming in so there is not this type is dispute.it’s clear Derrick James deserves more than 350k but also clear 2.5M is too much also. Maybe is spence was like his only or main guy that he spends time with and all that but it don’t seem like thatLast edited by LAchargers373; 04-26-2024, 05:02 AM.Comment

you have never trained a fighter, all these fighters as soon as they get big money start acting up. Trainer is what makes the fighter in the first place not his wife, his children, trainer pay up muth****er. Steve Robinson tried to break out of a contract with Barry Hearn Eddie Dad, after he got beat up by Hamed, he had to go back to Hearn to pay back the money the court ordered. Boxers get a bit a money and they think Einstein this story is as old as time VERY SADComment

Couldn’t agree more. Honour your agreements verbal or otherwise. Spence has zero integrity.I hope Derrick wins this. It is a shame to see boxers try and stiff their trainers when they start getting bigger purses. I remember when GGG did it to Abel Sanchez. People need to remember that the trainer was only getting 10% when the fighter was coming up and earning low purses. They have put the work in over years, not just for one fight.Comment

"Yet Spence’s text message to James asking, “What’s the number [owed]? $2.15 million? Since I already paid you $350,000?” indicates acknowledgement of the 10 percent arrangement they kept throughout the years, James attorney claims"
That's looks like a smoking gun!!!Comment

The difference was that GGG and Abel had a written contract, which expired, and they were trying to negotiate a new deal. According to Abel, GGG wanted to pay him a flat fee which would have amounted to between 2 and 5 percent of the purses from GGG's DAZN deal. That would have been a hell of a lot more than $350,000.I hope Derrick wins this. It is a shame to see boxers try and stiff their trainers when they start getting bigger purses. I don’t get why people think 10 percent is unreasonable. The top trainers are VERY few and if a boxer is ok to leverage that knowledge and experience early while the trainer is earning peanuts - seems really dishonorable to squeeze when you knew nature of agreement all along. How much money does an elite millionaire boxer really need???
It seems Al Haymon wanted to teach a lesson to Derrick James - you lost me my money maker, now you will pay. Shame Errol didn’t have the character to treat the man who treated him like a son with more dignity.Comment

Mofos have no problem paying 20%+ to their managers, advisors, and promoters, but have problems paying 10% to their trainers, who spend more time with them than anybody. GTFOH!
Btw, nice to see PB Cult falling apart. Keep it up, guys.Comment
