Bill Haney, if you're reading this forum, take this advice

You need to let your son go and learn new skills with a new trainer. You are obviously a big net negative to him. Clearly holding him back. You did a great job getting this far, but you are volatile attention seeking and are not up to the job anymore.

Dev should go to Ronnie Shields or even Lomachenko's Dad.

Couldn't disagree more about this. I think Bill helped shape & mold the blueprint they've been following for the 8.5yrs of Devin's career where they were undefeated til Saturday, became undisputed & #1 at 135, won a belt & was seen as #2 by most at 140 & navigating through multiple promoters to find a combo of the best money & opportunities. This is huge & Bill played his part.

Now did someone drop the ball Saturday with Devin fighting like he had lil clue about Ryan's left hook? Absolutely, but idk that we know if that was Devin from the jump, Devin in the moment losing the plot at that first big shot or being overconfident or ???. Or if it was Bill. Or someone else. But putting all the blame on Bill seems off rn.

I do think they should work with a more reknown high level trainer. Idk why they split from Ben. I'd bring him back or at a bare minimum bring him in as a strategy consultant if him coming to the US or Devin going to the UK for 8+wks isn't reasonable.

Bill Haney is like Ken Porter, Ruben Guerrero, Angel Garcia and ever other ****** boxing dad that came before them.

It’s not about what’s best for Devin and it’s never been about what’s best for Devin, it’s all about what’s best for Bill. He wants his name to be in lights, he wants the fame, the money, the respect etc. However, Bill Haney never had the skill, talent, intelligence etc to achieve that, so he’s latching onto his far more talented son and riding his coattails for as long as he can, even if it’s detrimental to Devin’s boxing career.

devin got no defense, a shaky chin, no power and soon cant make 140 anymoore. he will get wrecked at 147.

Devins only hope is that his chin gets better with cutting less weight and that he can get a new trainer to teach him defense. He will still have no power but atleast he could box

He's a net negative now though. Also he never taught Devin any defence in all these years.

Ain't no way he's a net negative after being #1 & undisputed at 135 & #2 & a belt holder at 140 (which he still has) cuz he lost to a guy who came in over weight & who he was beating up til the 9th rd. Thats a ridiculous & extreme take.

This is exactly the sh^t most ppl b^tch about here with dimissing guys after an L, but ppl keep doing it. You can beat anyone in the world, but if you lose your next fight some % of fans will "he ain't sh^t" you & make your accomplishments up to that L meaningless.

His defense is his jab, feet and angles. Not that long ago people were saying he had the best jab in boxing, he certainly has a good jab. He has to develop his jab so he can use it as a stronger punch when he needs to do so.

This forum I swear, you take one loss and people are telling you to retire. I don't like Bill but he did guide Devin to this point in his career, who's to say this isn't just a road bump in Devin's career. But I think adding an experienced second would help and that would mean Bill would have to sometimes let another voice be heard, he's gonna have to shallow his pride.
