I thought this thread was about Froch? Now it's an argument about Calzaghe
Anyway, Froch was a very good tough fighter, not quite truly elite but took on all comers.
Calzaghe was arguably elite, but didn't seem to have the willingness to prove it throughout most of his career. He showed when he stepped up vs the likes of Kessler that he could beat these other good champions, he just didn't do it enough in his career. Sometimes it wasn't his fault, i.e Hopkins did price himself out years before they ended up fighting. Even so, it doesn't mask the fact that Joe was a champ for years and at one point went through about 6 years of fighting almost nobody above euro level.
Calzaghe is one of my favourite fighters, I think he could've arguably beaten the elite fighters at his best, but you have to actually get in the ring with them to do it.
