And he has fought one of the Charlos and is about to face Munguia. Canelo, has for the most part, faced who the general public has asked him to face.

He doesn't have to face everyone. Some of the greats have dodged a couple of opponents and their legacies are still intact. Sugar Ray never fought Aaron Pryor. Marquez and Morales never fought. Mayweather refused to step in the ring with Margarito, Paul Williams, or Sergio Martinez - all bigger fighters. Perhaps Canelo feels Benavidez is too big.

Fans don't always get the showdowns they like, but that's not enough to tarnish a fighter as long as they have a solid enough resume. Canelo is still employed. His resume isn't complete yet.....and I think facing Munguia makes a big enough difference. He must, however, win.
If he's got a belt he needs to face the guys who have been declared mandatory. To not do so makes the boxing system worthless. The WBC, WBA and IBF need to be making the decision as to who he fights.

....because what is there to really talk about? If one scrutinizes David's resume like they do Canelo's, it wouldn't hold up either.

Fans want to see Canelo/Benavidez because they perceive David as a threat. If Canelo fights him and puts in a workmanlike performance, then fans will move on to the next contender...and the next until he loses and retires. Canelo is the protagonist for some and the antagonist for others, but he remains the central character of the plot. It's the gift and the curse of the cash-cow. Benavidez is just another person in Canelo's current rogues gallery. Joshua is held in similar regard, and he doesn't even have the responsibility of defending titles anymore.

I am sure glad I read this hatefest of a comment section first thing in the morning.

I know there will never be enough hoops for Nelo to jump through.
What I don't get is why do so many guys get passes for doing absolutely nothing but padding their resumes ?

If only boxing had a real organization like other sports do

Alvared isn't afraid. He just won't fight anybody that has a chance to beat him. In this case Benavidez would totally embarrasss and stop him because clownelo mentally quits when things aren't going his way. At this sage of his career he just can't afford to look bad even at the cost of Al Haymon's guaranteed $55 million.

                    Pointless speculation.
                    Canelo doesn’t need the money.
Canelo will fight Benavidez as his last fight then retire, so until he’s ready to draw a line under his career it won’t happen. Fighters leave something of themselves in the ring and everyone that has fought Benavidez has a hard time. Canelo will be no different. It’ll be one of his toughest if not the toughest fight. No way he’ll do it until he’s ready to cash out and retire.

He could fight him next but I doubt it. Easy money to be made against the likes of Munguia and Berlanga first and then no doubt another sub par opponent or two.

Benavidez pummels everyone round after round. A lot more damage long term than a quick knockout.
