Honest question. What is it about Canelo that makes him so popular?

He's not the best boxer around. Not the most charismatic. Not the most action packed fighter. Is a big part of it because he's not your stereotypical looking Mexican (red hair, freckles, fair skin)?

Young people don’t know this. Canelo is OLD but he fought EVERYONE. That’s why he’s popular and the highest payed boxer. All young people see is a guy who hasn’t fought Benividas. I see a guy who fought fighters that everyone avoided even the Charla’ s avoided avoided E. Lara. Others like Mayweather, Mosley, Cotto, Trout, Cintron, that animal Kirkland, GGGx3, Kovalev, Saunders, Jacobs and Bivol. I can’t think of anyone in the last 10 years who fought every top guy. Hes done now and is essentially doing his fairwell tour. I still think he will fight Benividas. I know there will be a bunch of bitching after he does cause I think he will win. He will force Benividas to come down to 168 and he WILL impose a Tank dehydration clause on him. It’s going to happen. Watch and see.

His looks is part of it, but the marketing and matchmaking was exceptional. Kudos to GBP for a job well done.

Stfu Archie, he didn't fought everyone, and the two or three good ones he fought, beat him. And stop with canelo's old age, he's 33 and a multimillionaire that have a lavishly life. He's a well compensated fraud, good for him.

His look played a big part in the marketing (imagine he looked like Margarito), plus coming up he was a pretty entertaining boxer/puncher and he was given the right high profile fights to build him up on HBO. He then managed to ride that wave by winning key fights one way or another, sometimes relying on corrupt judging to save his reputation, and there you go. Push someone hard enough the right way and you make a star.

His looks and GBP matched him up for some highlight reel KOs against Kirkland and Khan to get the hype really going.

                Because he fought:
                Miguel Vazquez (twice)
                Carlos Baldomir
                Lovemore N'dou
                Kermit Cintron
                Shane Mosley
                Floyd Mayweather Jr.
                Erislandy Lara
                Miguel Cotto
                Amir Khan
                Liam Smith
                Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
                Gennadiy Golovkin (three times)
                Daniel Jacobs
                Sergey Kovalev
                Callum Smith
                Billy Joe Saunders
                Caleb Plant
                Dmitry BIvol
                Jermell Charlo

All those dudes won legitimate world titles at some point in their careers. He also fought contenders like:
                Josesito Lopez
                Austin Trout
                Rocky Fielding
                John Ryder

Is he making a fool of himself for considering fights like Berlanga or inactive Charlo over Benavidez and Morrell? Yes. But it doesn't change what he's done in the past. He has taken some Ls, got a few gift decisions, and popped for PEDs but he still ultimately has fought a ton of big names and tough competition and that gets a guy fans. Not that complicated.

People love to see his fights, always asking to see this fight and that he should fight this guy or that guy, and it's ongoing.
Right now, he is asked as first choice to fight benevidez, then munguia, bud, charlo, bivol. So many names from all directions.
