MMA has never at any point been more popular than boxing. How many times are people gonna ask this question
Is Boxing currently more popular than UFC in America?

Boxing and MMA are the only major combat sports. There is a gigantic drop off after that.Comment

Late 2015 through 2016 when the UFC had Conor and Ronda and 7 PPVs that broke a million buys while boxing had zero?
2018 when Conor/Khabib did more buys than Canelo/GGG 1+2 combined?
This weekend even tbh. The biggest boxing match involves an MMA fighter in the main event, while the UFC has a major PPV that will likely outdraw it. Any given weekend one might be bigger than the other, totally depends on whats booked. Thats how its been for ages, ever since they started getting comparable exposure.Last edited by TMLT87; 03-06-2024, 12:08 AM.Comment

The UFC right now is kind of lacking in full time star power tbh. The biggest stars are guys like Izzy, Khamzat, Poatan, Volk, Poirier, Gaethje, Islam, Usman, O'Malley, Paddy, Holloway, Gane, Strickland, Colby, a badly declined Tony Ferguson etc. Not really any household names there. I would say boxing actually has more star power at the top end right now. AJ, Canelo and Fury are bigger than any UFC names other than Conor, and unlike Conor they actually fight sometimes.Last edited by TMLT87; 03-06-2024, 05:43 AM.Comment

This is not even a debate anymore.
UFC makes more money than all other MMA promotions and all boxing promotions combined.
UFC gets billion dollar broadcasting deals. Boxing can't keep broadcasters, never mind get billion dollar deals.
UFC prelims featuring nobodies do better ratings than boxing stars like Shakur, Beterbiev, Ortiz, etc on the same network.
There's no observable metric that boxing does better in other than maybe 2-3 gates a year.Comment
