The BWC or Boxing Writers Club, is a UK membership of writers and scholars from the United Kingdom. It is modeled after the BWAA (Boxing Writers Association of America) in the US.

The draw down of the organization is largely due to the gradual decline of print media, where the quality and depth of writing is traditionally vetted more stringently due to the high production cost of the desemenated product, versus that of electronic media, where you truly get what you pay for.

Membership to the BWAA is limited by application criteria. The BWAA is a professional writers' organization, not a club for bloggers or fans. It is comprised of professional journalists whose work appears for respected news outlets on a regular basis. The BWAA is now open to video journalists who cover the sport regularly for credentialed news outlets.

The BWAA is larger and better funded than it's UK counterpart, and fortunately, faces no such difficulty.

Let's define 'professional' in this context. I know for certain that many of these BWAA 'professional writers' mostly write for free, or for press passes, which makes them glorified fan bloggers

I suppose the distinction lies not in glorification, but in the quality of the writing, the knowledge of the scribner, and the authenticity of the credentials held. Worlds apart.
That said, there was a time when virtually every major daily newspaper in the country had a full time Boxing writer.

Yeah, everybody's a boxing scribe nowadays. It seems to me that much of the published content will largely be ghost-written by AI LLMs going forward; for better or for worse.
