  • Is the welterweight division dormant?

It used to eclipse all the other divisions.

Yes, because the division's top three fighters are inactive Americans who love talking on social media.

It will continue to be dormant for many years to come the rate it's going.

Spence and Crawford have been allowed to dictate too much. Stanionis stepping aside to allow Spence - Ugas was a monumental error.

It's a 4-belt era. Just imagine being allowed to defend one belt for one year.

            Only for the meantime.

Haney , Teofimo , Shakur and Garcia ( if he keeps fighting) should be at WW by 2025.

I'm sure we'll also get some Wildcards like Maidana in the mix by then.

Ennis, if he is actually as ambitious as his father claims he is, should start targeting 154.

there is a lot more going on there than is likely going to happen at welter any time soon.

Just wait for one year he'll get fat eventually, thus no choice but to move up. Especially with all the inactivity Boots and Bozy are tolerating. I don't see them having enough time to "clean out the division," as chanted by Bozy. Especially with them taking way too much time cherrypicking opponents. Seven months since his last fight and still no fight announced. Seven wasteful months. If he fights in May, that'll be almost a year in between fights.

                    - - Boxing hugely more popular in 20th Century America, but started falling with the end of Mike Tyson And decline of US Olympic boxing.

AJ resurrected Hvys, but he a Brit, not American. Manny made boxing huge in Asia, but again, not American.

Saudis making biggest fights, again, not America.
