I admit I'm curious. What disadvantages did Oscar insist on?

My recollection is that Oscar, who hadn't fought as a welterweight for years, abd then only on Cinquo de Maya (sp?) actually was just before the fight, at 143.5 lbs, and when supposedly re-hydrated, was still well under the welterweight limit. That alone showed that he was in dire straits, and there were many "expert" comments about it. Oscar looked good, but was drained, as weak as a kitten.

And still a case could have been made for him that he should have got the decision, or at least a draw.

But, not trying to diss you. You're asking and that's good.

However, if you have conclusive evidence that I'm wrong, and you're right, that's O.K. with me. I have "no axe to grind" in this discussion merely enjoying the differing opinions and vehemently defended positions.

Oscar was the WBC JMW (154lb) Champ. He insisted Floyd fight with 10oz. gloves, instead of 8oz. He insisted on a smaller ring to keep Floyd from running around too much. ALL of which Floyd agreed to.

Not to mention, Oscar was much heavier on fight night AND was the taller fighter with the longer reach.

Oscar lost his belt that night.

If you give WW credit to Shane for beating Vargas and Mayorga, then give Floyd 2x that WW credit for beating Oscar. Because Delahoya knocked both those guys out.

How do you get around that?

I usually answer or comment from memory, as I just did about Vargas and Mayorga. However after I sent it, I decided to look up boxrec. This is what I found.

They were both, indeed, fought at 154 lbs so Mosley was a Welterweight fighting Light-middles. As well as Oscar TKO ing both, Mosley TKO'd one and KO'd the other.

I also noticed that when Oscar fought these 2 guys, they had both been previously been destroyed within a 2-3 year period, by Felix Trinidad. And we all know that when Trinidad gives an opponent a real "going-over" it can take years to recover, and very often they never recover.

Again, I noticed that they'd each only had a couple of easy fights between the Trinidad and Oscar fights. Whereas, with the Mosley fights, there was a longer period for recovery and more actual fights, to bring them back to a higher level. Mosley's 2nd fight with Vargas was the WBA title eliminator.

And when Oscar TKO'd Vargas, it was late in the 11th rd and the fight was pretty even. I recall that Vargas commented that he was sure he was winning.

I don't know how important all this is, but I can't help thinking it has SOME positive attributes.

In 2006, Floyd and Shane were both WW's. Shane only took the Feroz fights at 154 bc obviously, Fernando can't make 147, and those were the biggest paydays available for SM. But Shane had repeatedly said that he was a WW. SM's two fights before and two fights after Vargas were at WW, thus confirming his words.

The Floyd-Shane fight was on the table. Floyd wanted it. Shane wanted it. HBO was hyping it and had given it a date.

But Shane had a dental appointment.

Thus, that brings us back to my assertion: Miguel Cotto is the most accomplished Welterweight of recent years. More than Floyd. More than margarito. More than Shane.

I mean, I like Luis Collazo and all, but Ricky Hatton decisioned Collazo at 147. How much credit should Shane (or Berto) receive for doing the same?

Would you be impressed if Floyd decisioned Collazo? I wouldn't.

You're perhaps forgetting that "styles make fights". Actually I thought that Colazzo deserved the decision against Hatton.

I think that Cotto made his name as a 140 lb'er, because of the adversity he would sometimes go through, but in the end, would "weather the storms' and win by a nice KO
or TKO. Of course he was weakening himself to make weight and was, is a true welterweight, I believe that Mosley has made a better welterweight name for himself, by fighting the best opponents, many at their peaks, like Oscar and Forrest, [and he was a killer at lightweight]. Forrest was all wrong for him, both in style and size, although he could have barely sc****d the second fight.

Also going up to 154, where he didn't belong, and beating champions. etc. etc. I also thought that Mosley just beat Cotto. At least it should have been a draw. You know what I mean. It wasn't one of his better performances, a bit "lacklustre".

And, having looked at boxrec, I'm surprised that you make no mention of the fact that I was unjustly blaming myself for believing that Mosley had gone up to 154 to fight Mayorga and Vargas (twice), because he actually did.

Not exactly, more from having , for example, a 4 year, several good quality fights etc to recover at least some of their skills.

I did mention that. I said that if you give Shane WW credit for work at 154, then you must give PBF credit for work at 154.

That's BS, there is no documented proof of that. It's some BS Mosley just made up to try to justify his case for calling out Mayweather now. He wanted no part Mayweather then. Stuttering in the post fight interview asking the broadcasters to inspect his teeth. He said back then he wanted to get his teeth fixed, then go on vacation with his family, then he said Mayweather should fight someone else(Margarito). He said nothing about give me another month.
