Gatti was completely washed up long before Mayweather, but the big news about him was that, regardless, he always had a huge following. I don't think it's a valid premise that one hugely popular fighter can only bring in the "gate" and the other, who has always -as the commentators would say- "stunk out the house" would be the
PPV draw. I don't suppose that the over a million U.K. PPV buys were because they were Mayweather fans.

Baldomir was the lineal champ, and had beaten Judah in a huge upset.

You are comparing "apples" and "oranges" At least I believe so.

However, thank you for the info.
    According to Webster

Hater - In the face of overwhelming evidence, sticks to unwarranted beliefs, nonswaying. Refuses to change no matter the circumstance, stiffnecked.

so we have to overrate gayweather instead? whom refused to fight margarito, cotto, and all the other top guys both cotto and margarito faced and mosleyFACED AND IN MANY CASES fought and beat?even margarito has a better record of facing the top guys than does mayweather all these guys do, can you imagine mayweather facing someone like paul williams ???HELL NO NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!!! HE WONT EVEN FACE A 38-YEARLD DUDE THAT PUNKED HIM OUT ON INTERNATIONAL TV!!!!!! I DONT GET YOU FANS AT ALL.this is a combat sport not a run away from the toughest challenges when they arise sport.

Shane would have a good chance if he juiced himself, maybe. I wouldn't fight a person who was accused heavily of using an illegal substance. Then Mosely and his camp snitch on Marg, when Marg could have been doing this because he knew something fishy was with Mosely's camp or still believe he used steroids. You never know what goes on behind the scene.

        • All I have to say is that Mosley should of kept fighting after
          the Antonio Margarito win.

Who else was there to fight besides Berto? Clottey and Cotto were scheduled to fight each other. Hell, if you pay attention, it's Shane Mosley who has signed the fight and we are waiting on Dibella and Berto to hold up their end.

            • classic mayweather. this is why he gets paid regardless.anytime you got somebody mentioning(HATERS)your name you are doing something right. pbf vs de la hoya, vs mosley the steriod user, vs cotto, vs pac, or vs marquez there's a hell of a gate profit and ppv. regardless of what you think of him.

His strong point was always his mouth, not his boxing expertise, no matter how skilled he is, and he very carefully picked as his opponents only those he felt certain he'd beat.

I recall very well his fight with Diego Corrales, which actually brought him to my attention, as well as to the attention of the boxing public. I saw immediately his reason for fighting Corrales, who, it should be known, was the favourite to beat him. The average fight fan is not aware, but Mayweather very carefully set the stage for this fight. He chose Corrales, nearly 6 ft.tall, who had already left the 130 lb. division, and was walking around at about 150 or more, was in desperate trouble with the Law, was penniless and thirsty for money to pay his legal expenses, had a very bad matrimonial situation, and actually was due to go to jail for 2 years immediately after the fight.

Corrales, being questioned about his weight problems, when asked why he'd take such an unsuitable fight, said that "he made me an offer I couldn't refuse". He spent his training time in just trying to shed the weight, was overweight on the first weigh in, and had spent most of the previous day in a sweat box. As T.K. Stewart wrote, "when I saw Corrales, his skin grey, every rib showing, and looking like death, could hardly stand, I knew right away he had no chance of winning" (paraphrasing).

Later, Larry Merchant was talking about having seen Corrales in his dressing room, just before the fight, stuffing down a huge hamburger.

The point I'm making is that Mayweather will NEVER make a fight with anyone he is not certain, for whatever reason (which of course is not known to the casual fan) of winning and he's pretty good at prognosticating.

Oscar used to do the same thing, but not as well, so he often lost fights he was sure he'd win. So....Mayweather should be a sure thing, if you want to win some betting money.

With all the talk about the $600,000 that he forfeited, it guaranteed him a certian win, even without all the other advantages, and he could have backed himself to win to make that money back. However, compared to his purse and PPV, it was only a "fleabite", in exchange for a 100% guaranteed win. Smart guy.

Good write up mang, don't think the huggers can refute it ! You can see it all over the JMM fight, BUT , his days are numbered, his fall will come and great will be the fall of it.

He fights Mosley he loses his 0 by KO, he will be devastated , cry , go into hiding and that will be that, his fans will go vomit , wailing in Mayweather town.

Which goes to the MISMANAGEMENT that has plagued Mosley's career from day one. Whomever is advising Mosley should be fired on the spot.

Mosley should have lined up anyone to fight after AM, because he needs the leverage. For him to sit on the sideline for almost a year with still nothing signed ... it just plain ****** and a prime example of mismanagement.

Yes, Mosley is jealous of Floyd, because Floyd has made the right business decisions time after time with much success. I'm not talking legacy here - I'm talking BUSINESS and career management and Floyd is a GIANT compared to Mosley in that department.

so i guess fighting jmm a former featherweight , is better and does more for frauds legacey than mosley ,so basically jmm is a better fighter than mosley or even clottey or margarito, hmmmm? interesting i gues that makes fraud jr better than sugar ray robinson like he proclaims.
