What is wrong with the principle of a champion being expected to face his number one challenger?

People make it as if Nelo has been fighting a bunch of stiffs his whole career.
While, at the same time, praising others for doing just that.

Yes, Champs should fight the next guy up.
I truly believe they will fight this year.
I also believe that when Nelo wins, the excuses for him winning will be off the charts.

I think Canelo would probably win too. I've heard the stamina argument but I think Benavidez being in front of Canelo for him to hit is a good style match up for Canelo. He may even stop Benavidez.

I know fights happen in the ring and not in Fantasy Land, BUT,
Benny hasn't beaten anyone Nelo couldn't....imho.

Thing is Canelo can win those fights its not one sided, he is a proud Mexican and he hasn't named an opponent fingers crossed its Benavidez.

I agree but it's a pretty big risk. Canelo has more to lose than to gain by fighting Benavidez.

Nelo has beaten some decent guys, but I don't think he gets much credit. Let's hope he fights benavides and gets credit. Will Nell be expected to fight munguia too?
But if Nell beats benevidez, don't then say benavides was a hype job, but think more along the lines of everybody wanted the fight as benavides was the man, he satisfied the eye test. Of course it will be tempting to say actually who did benavides fight and beat to be considered such a good opponent for nelo and great win?
But I say rise above that, and we may then get the fight we so want
