I agree. I am far more interested in long and active reigns in a single division than inactivity and picking off weak belt holders in different weight classes.

As to Calzaghe, he unfortunately held the WBO when it didn't mean much and probably held it too long. Plus he didn't defend the belts after he beat Kessler.

He was wrong about his second fight with Veit not being televised in the UK. Eurosport picked it up and I remember watching live (see below). I loved Steve Holdsworth's commentary and he talked about Joe's situation with the WBO during the fight.

Joe's right on this one it was good enough for Monzon & Hagler, so who can argue. Sadly the emergence of the IBF & WBO havan't helped the situation!

What they should do is have a national champion representing America (IBF) and every other belt consolidated into one international title (WBC, WBA, WBO, IBO).

That way, there will only be one American champ in each weight class and the national champ can fight the international champ for undisputed, world championship supremacy.

It became an all to well known fact that Calzaghe would be a tough fight for many
With the excuse of going over the pond , many just said fugh it and that was one of the most used excuses by all North American fighters
My wish would of been if Calzaghe would of made the trip to fight overseas much earlier , he would of been known worldwide and gotten the respect he so damn deserved

That’s the first time I’ve ever heard anything about Joe like that
Well , tell you what , I recall many times North American fighters mentioning his name and threatening to fight him but not many were willing to go see the champ
But I do remember myself questioning why he wasn’t coming over
